The UK Advertising Standards Authority has banned the TV advert for Strangehold (PS3, 360, PC) on the grounds that it is “encouraging and condoning violence”.

The advert featured a shootout between 4 men with a voiceover that said “Honour is his code. Vengeance is his mission. Violence is his only option.” All of the visuals were computer generated, and Picture Production Company (the makers of the advert) said that it was edited so that no-one was actually shot on screen, and that it was clear the action was not real, as it was stylised, unrealistic and had a fantasy quality.

This is yet another case of unnecessary censorship, under the groundless belief that violence in films (and video games) will incite violence in people, children included. Now, do you wanna see the ad?
