Each month the NPD (National Purchase Diary) results come out of America to show the World what everyone Stateside has been buying. For the last few months The PS3 has been on top of the 360, sales wise, but this month it’s a landslide.
“The PlayStation brand is truly hitting its stride on its long-term opportunity across all three platforms. Our strong June numbers serve as proof to the continued momentum of the PS3 and affirms that we’re exactly where we expected to be,” said Jack Tretton. “This month’s success can be attributed to the exclusive blockbuster Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and we’re poised for continued growth into the back half of the year with a much anticipated line-up, including LittleBigPlanet, SOCOM: Confrontation, Resistance 2, MotorStorm: Pacific Rift, and NBA ’09: The Inside. Additionally, the new PlayStation Network video delivery service will be a big driver for the PS3 and PSP, allowing consumers to extend their multi-media and entertainment experience.”
Here’s the figures:
PlayStation 3 405.5k
PSP 337.4k
Playstation 2 188.8k
Xbox 360 219.8k
Wii 666.7k
Nintendo DS 783k
In addition, PS3 exclusive MGS4 sold over 750K copies (not including bundles), the next closest game was Guitar Hero for the DS at just over 420K. 360 exclusive Ninja Gaiden II managed just 372K copies, sitting in third place.
01. PS3 METAL GEAR SOLID 4: GUN OF THE PATRIOTS KONAMI 774.6K (Does not include bundles with PS3 hardware)
02. NDS GUITAR HERO ON TOUR ACTIVISION 422.3K

Funny how the PSP and PS3 can moved hardware but never have the game sales to back it up. It is the miraculous ability of their competitors to make any sheit sell on their system that is convincing third parties to not give SONY any exclusives. That and the fact that the subsidy checks are no longer in the mail, while the competitor is delivering big sacks with dollar signs on them personally to everyone via first class currier.

Wow, that’s amazing, PS3 and PSP both beat the 360 in the 360’s own turf. Impressive, I wonder if it’ll stay that way?

NPD has not stood for National Purchase Diary for almost 30 years. It’s just NPD, it stands for NPD.

That doesn’t really mean anything though. Of course 360 sales are slowing, most people who want one already have one because it’s been out longer.
