There’s been much speculation over the last two days about whether PlayTV can export its recordings from the PS3’s hard drive to, say, a PC for archiving. Eurogamer said that it can’t, yet a few other sites claim it can.
To put the record straight, we’ve spoken to SCEE, who clarified the situation: “you can not transfer content to your PSP, PC or memory sticks”, a spokesperson told us. “You can stream live or recorded TV content on your PSP via Remote Play only”.
We hope that solves the issue once and for all.

Too bad.
I´m not always near wifi hotspots, and it would be nice to be able to watch recording offline on the psp or a laptop.
Just like (… what did they use back then… ) VHS..?

Noo! I’m sure that’s not what was said originally. This would have been great for watching last nights TV on the train on your PSP. WiFi only access doesn’t cut it. I’m peeved

In fact check the bit out at the bottom of the ‘official’ ‘Sony’ statement…

* Portable viewing with PSP: Seamless PSP connectivity allows you to set recordings, watch Live TV and recorded TV programmes remotely on the PSP via a WiFi connection (using Remote Play feature) – or you can transfer video files to your PSP via USB cable.

Oh well. Even just to the PSP would have done nicely. Really hope it will support the 4 HD channels (when they come out).
Question 1: Does your PS3 have to be switched on to record scheduled programs or will it be able to turn on (from stand-by), record, then turn off again?
Question 2: Will folding@home work when recording, just like games and movies do?
Thanks in advance for any info!

Doesn’t really bother me but I do think they’ve missed a trick. I suppose there’s licensing and re-broadcast issues at play, it’s a shame though it turns what could have been a fantastic product into just a decent one. I fear the HD stuff won’t be supported either, making PlayTV that little bit more frustrating for the missed opportunity.

I wish they wouldn’t tell us things that turn out to be untrue. It’s annoying, and getting progressively more annoying as they do it more.

Ok its still a good product, but it could have been so much better!
