Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock for 12 months, you’ll no doubt be aware that the worldwide economy is in a bit of a mess. Apparently we’re all going to lose our jobs and our houses, and regress to living like cavemen.
So, has all the bad news recently affected the way you think about buying videogames? Let us know in the poll and the comments.

It doesnt affect me, but the stream of high quality games does. Nothing like planning ahead for the fall game purchases, only to find out I’ll have to use 700$-800$ for games, not including all the work hours I’ll miss playing them :/

Agreed. And of the ones I am buying this quarter, longevity is what I’m looking for (read - LBP and Resistance 2).

“I’m not buying as many games as i would like”
But then again, i don’t think students are supposed to use their loan on collecting trophies…

The credit crunch is actually helping me to make more money as I am a bit cheaper than my competition so potential clients are now far more willing to talk to me than they would have been 12 months ago. My business is increasing for the time being but if the financial crisis gets much worse (and it probably will) then a lot of my potential clients will be closing their doors. This would be a bad thing.
It has already hit me though, I didn’t get off too lightly. I was already made redundant in February because I worked for an estate agent and the property market has gone tits up. Luckily I took the opportunity to start my own business and so far seem in pretty good shape to weather the storm.

I work in the builders merchant industry………..We went bust about 2 months ago! Been bought out now so all is OK (ish)!? But the credit crunch appears to be very real, certainly in the building trade anyway.
I use Blockbuster trade in deal to buy my games. eg. just got rid of soulcalibur and got Pure for £10.Probably gone thru 25 games but only own 7-8 at a time.
Hopefully Santa will be good to me this year so I can keep up with all these new releases.

I can’t justify buying all the games I want, but that probably more to do with the fact there are more good games around now
I’m going to have to do some trade-ins
Fifa 08 for 09
GTA IV for Saints Row 2
Heavenly Sword for LBP
MotorStorm for Shaun White Snowboarding (in the absence of SSX!)
But, Warhawk’s a keeper, mainly because I downloaded it…and I play it all the time

Incoming GTA IV trophies not tempt you to keep it?

The only game I’ll buy in the last quarter of this year is LBP (and maybe GTA IV for my brother’s birthday), so that, Burnout Paradise, Wipeout HD and GTA will keep me busy enough until the new year.

I am gonna have to start trading games into Game or Blockbuster too.
I bought my first house with my girlfriend 4 months ago and we are already in negative equity, We must have lost at least 7000 on the house already.Plus with food prices going up and utilities bills going through the roof if i spend too much money on new games my missus would slaughter me.
I have planned for LBP and Resistance 2 so I am covered for them, but anything else I want is going to have to bought via trade in.
