It seems Sony has partnered with various publishers to bring premium themes to your local store. As of now, they appear to be up on the North American store, and there’s no word yet when and if they will be available to us Europeans. You can expect 6-10 themes each month, and it also seems they will cost a few pennies. Thanks, but no thanks.

  1. “Premium Themes” doesn’t that just mean “We’re going to start charging you for something that you should be able to do for yourself and distribute, freely, over the internet or even in handy little proprietry-format pakages over the PSN to your friends like this was the 21st century and not some closed-party bollocks, after all, we don’t live in communist China”

    Yes, I think it does.
Well, you can sick your “Premium Themes” up your “Overpriced Arse” Sony

    • Blimey, feeling a little troll-ish today mate?

      • 6 days into quitting smoking, it’s bound to get easier…

  2. If there had always been premium themes and people were used to that then this might work but there are so many great quality freebies around (espeically on ps3themes.net) I can’t see anyone with half a brain going for this… maybe thats why it’s only North America :p

    • exactly my thought, well your last sentence at least.
i’ve never heard of ps3themes.net. maybe because i dont give much about themes.

      • Sorry, got that address completely wrong anyway, it’s http://www.ps3-themes.com/
You can visit it on the console and download the themes directly

  3. This is just stupid. Why would I pay for a theme? What’s that? I wouldn’t? Correct.

    Stupid Sony.

  4. I’ve never downloaded a free one…

    • me neither, I don’t see the point.

  5. I would. They look cool, and won’t be too expensive. I bought loads on the 360.

    • “gasp” nofi owned the dirty x word

      • 1st rule of single console loyalty. Know your enemy.

  6. These are going to be pirated in an instance

  7. Don’t forget that artists still can create free themes for you guys. DON’T FORGET IT.

    • can they? I had no idea that was possible, in fact the last thing I heard about this was that it wasn’t possible. How?

      • By downloading the theme creator – go Google it.

  8. There is a theme compiler prog and from looking around there are already some nifty looking themes available (can be downloaded to a memory key or directly on the PS3 browser).

This is the same of all things on the internet though. If you know where it is you can get stuff for free that people pay a bit for (not counting illegal stuff of course).

There is always a middle man market, bringing this content to the user-not-in-the-know in an easily accessible way. Also the micro transaction way if they price it right, people will spend a dollar or two to try something out. I’ve fallen into that trap on the iTunes store and when there wasn’t much on the PSN store.

So sadly this will likely be successful for the above reasons. That and they say the content will include “beauties on the beach”. If only they could make’em jiggle then they could give the PS3 away for free and live off the theme sales to the teen market.

  9. The only thing that annoys me about themes is why the Playstation Network icon cannot be themed! EVERY other icon can and for many themes having that blue globey thing with the symbols on it spoils the rest of the theme. Maybe these premium ones WILL change it, that would suck though

  10. just dont think too much about it!
its all about your psych gauge…

  11. An MGS4 joke! I love you.

I hope it was an MGS4 joke, anyway. Please say it was?

  12. hell i love you because you got it
    i feared nobody would
