Rumbled.

Having a good old laugh at sites that steal our content ad verbatim.
Article written by newsbot in Blog, on Friday, October 10, 2008 at 8:45.

Ah, the internet.  Yesterday, in the European PSN Update post, we added a little ‘hook’ to see if anyone was blatantly ripping us off.  Well, it seems they are.

Sure, there’s the odd forum here and there which is fine, but at the time of writing 57 other websites had ripped off the list, including the hook, in its entirety..

  2. i loled hard.

    • Oh. Damn it.

  3. Interesting experiment, though, eh? The number could grow too, these were just the blogs that Google spiders often.

  4. Very funny. Especially the forum that credits another forum.

  5. Absolutely brilliant

  6. Heh heh. Nicely done chaps. Always good to know that I’m in the right place. :)

  7. That is genius… Gold trophy for you guys!!

  8. It’s even funnier that in the comments the trap was mentioned, and they still cut n’ paste it

    • Twice, I think.

  9. Hehe brilliant stuff, really does seperate the men from the boys!

To be fair on the overclockers lot they nicked it from AVF (with credit) who nicked it from TSA without credit, the good intentions were there!

  10. oh thats good :)

  11. Our PS3 community forum always uses TSA as a source for PSN content news, but at least we always give credit to TSA as source (and we put TSA link in the post)

  12. lol so funny

  13. This experiment was awesome.
You should definately do it again next week.

Surprising that the admins of these sites copy and paste content, without even looking at it, to see what it’s about.
The fact that they trust it much, must suggest these sites have all done it in the past…

    • You’d be surprised. We’ve done this before, but not posted about it… =)

      • lol.
Wow! Gotta look for those ones too now!

and I’m liking the ‘unique’ new tags you’ve used for this news entry ;)

  14. That is hilarious. Bravo!

  15. At least that nice Swedish site (in the trackbacks) had the decency to hold their hands up and apologise. They even seemed to think it was a funny trap to set. I’ve always liked the Swedes.

    • Well, what other is there to do than apologize?
It was amazingly lame of us to actually steal information without giving credit when it was due.

Nice lesson to be taught though :)

(and regarding that we thought the trap was funny – you have to admit it was a wicked thing to do since they caught tons of sites with their pants down. Unfortunately including ours… ;) )
