We’ve had a couple of emails in this week (guys, we’re not SCEE) from users who have changed their passwords only to find out that their PS3s then seem to think they’re a different user, blocking access to saved games and Trophies. It’s not happening to everyone, and seemed constrained to just users changing their passwords on the actual console (rather than over the web) but some games, namely Dead Space, Burnout Paradise and LittleBigPlanet aren’t happy with the change.
We’re not really prepared to test this, but if anyone has had this problem arise, we’d like to hear from you. One visitor said that LittleBigPlanet wouldn’t let him get any new Trophies until he’d deleted the save game, and we’ve even heard this morning that WipEout HD is refusing to boot at all after a password change. Here’s hoping this is something that can be fixed with a firmware update because expecting gamers to start their saves all over again is clearly ludicrous.

I had a similar problem and talked about it at length over at PS3Attitude.com (if you want the whole sordid tale - I’m not going through it again!)
I changed my password and then changed it back and I couldn’t sync with the Trophies database. For those of you out there slamming your head against the wall - I’ll save you from calling Sony Support (like I did - and got nowhere) or trawling through forums for answers (like I did and found something).
The problem is: you’ve messed up your profile on the PS3. Note: not your PSN account which is sitting pretty on Sony’s servers and is fine. You haven’t lost any trophies or anything - you just can’t sync between the PSN account and your local profile.
The only fix is to delete the profile on your PS3.
All you have to do is back-up your Save files (if you can, I was always able to access my Save files - sorry if you can’t) and delete the profile. Create a new one and go in to Account Management and when it comes to asking you to create a new PSN id just select “Use Existing” and enter in your old email address and password. This PSN id will then be synced with your new PS3 profile and all is well in the world.
Copy back over your Save files and perform a manual trophy sync and everything is back to normal. The ONLY thing you’ll lose is your messages but - that’s no big deal.
Obviously you don’t lose Game Data because this is saved on the HDD (which you did NOT wipe) so you really lose nothing. Unfortunately I don’t know anything about the “Can’t access Save Files” issue. This would be something you may need to speak to Sony about as it didn’t happen to me.
Hope this helps anyone affected by this issue. I’m assuming a new firmware update will fix this and we’ll never hear about it. One of those “improved network stability issues” fixes we keep hearing about.

Not experienced this myself but I’m sure the information you have provided will go a long way for any people out there that are having this problem, very imformative and well written.

Im in a contrary mood today, so i’ll just say, rubbish post…
p.s in a completely unrelated topic, if your having bluetooth sync/dropout problems (mines a 60gig) with your sixaxis, i found out recently that there is a tiny little reset ‘hole/button’ on the sixaxis underneath (i was shocked that i’d never even realised it was there) to re-sync the controller…but due to my mood, this is shit as well

One of my six axis controllers always brings up the XMB without being prompted. Is this what you mean?

no not really, in most cases (in all games rather) my sixaxis (at some point) loses sync, even if i put the usb cable in the game usually says ‘no controller detected’ IT IS A PAIN IN THE ARSE! especially as i have to restart the ps3 (if i havnt saved theres nothing i can do )
Ive heard off other users tho, that if you get the new DS3 this doesnt happen? (i havnt got one yet) and fortunately it hasnt happened in a while so i cant really test it yet (but its there and it sounds logical)..so fingers crossed it works (when im 1st bloody place in BF:BC)
