We’ve had a few emails recently asking what has happened to SOCOM, and whether it has been delayed to 2009, so we asked Sony yesterday. ”An extremely tight production schedule in the run up to peak season means the US version of SOCOM: Confrontation will launch ahead of the PAL region” said the spokesperson for SCEE. “Now that the European Beta trial has concluded we can now announce that the launch of both European versions (PSN & Blu-Ray) will be in early in 2009.”
So there you go.

Delayed? What a supprise
Good thing its not supposed to be too brilliant anyway. Hopefully they’ll have a demo out sometime for me to try.

What? I though it was out already

Yeah, just keep screwing Europe over. When will they realize that Europe is a bigger market for Sony then the US?
November 29th, 2008 at 11:28 am
Well, I just bought it for the headset.
£30 for the game and headset
£18 for the headset on its own.
@12 for a game seemed pretty good to me
But yeah, im not bothered enough to wait.
My standalone headset is on its way. So when February arrives I’ll have what I wanted. And Im not really bothered about the game enough to buy it standalone.
I wonder how many more potential new SOCOM players Sony will loose because of this.

Personally, I can wait. If it means we don’t have to go through the same crap the US did and get a stable game on release I’m happy.

I just got the headset from play.com, they were supposed to have it in stock yesterday, but they e-mailed me and said I could expect it to be shipped by Monday.

what euro beta????
November 29th, 2008 at 6:00 pm
Thats a kick in the teeth, Resistance 2 was a month later here and now this SCEE need to sort themselves out.
November 29th, 2008 at 6:52 pm
Resistance 2 was deliberately delayed by SCEE just to spread the releases out a bit. Look at the SCEE release list for the past few months over the PS3/PSP/PS2, one game per week steady (although the delay to LBP did mess things up a little bit). Then look at the SCEA release schedule, everything they had came out between mid-October and the first week of November (because they need to get things out before Thanksgiving). Personally I don’t blame SCEE for doing it their way, though it can be frustrating when the Yanks always seem to get things first.
Regarding the SOCOM delay, I knew something was up when Sony did the press releases for PS3 firmware 2.50 back in October. The SCEA version talked about the HQ audio mode for SOCOM, the SCEE version had no mention of SOCOM and instead talked about Resistance 2. Just seemed a bit strange considering SOCOM was going to be bundled with the headset.

not too bothered, the beta was terrible. not my sort of game at all.
November 29th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
I’m pissed, I was going to get this game for Christmas with the headset. Looks like they’ve lost a sale, at least for for a few months after February.

Huh? I’m confused. I live in Norway(Wich, for those whom don’t know, is in Europe), and SOCOM is already in most stores. :S

Ya… i live in the states and that game was released a while ago, but it really wasn’t that great. the controls were really wierd and unnatural. and there was a gigantic list of problems with it. i can recall seeing atleast 100 different error messages. but besides that it was kinda fun. and hey, good deal on that microphone if you get it with the game
