PopCap PSN

Casual games giant continues on path to world domination.
Published 29/01/2009 at 22:32 by colossalblue

PopCap Games have signed a deal with Sony Online Entertainment to bring five of their casual games library to the PSN.

All five titles will include trophy support and be available at full 1080p HD resolutions.

Here’s the full list:

  • Bejewelled 2
  • Zuma
  • Peggle
  • Feeding Frenzy
  • Heavy Weapon

I have to admit to only having a sketchy knowledge of those games except for Zuma which was a really fun little puzzle game I last played on an old Nokia a few years back.

Anyway, they are presumably all fun little casual games which will pas a few minutes while you’re waiting for a taxi to the pub and they will presumably be well priced so might just be perfect for these economically depressing times.

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many tags ;)

  2. Peggle’s awesome.

Hope they have a sensible price – for less than £5 it was really easy to buy games even if I didn’t really want them, but at £8 its surprisingly easy to ignore a game that looks interesting.

Also, can’t you play most of them for free through your web-browser?

  3. I’m not really a fan of these type of games. Waste of money.

    • Normally I couldn’t agree more, but peggle is Extraordinarily compelling! Ode to Joy FTW!

  4. Bejeweled is quite a good game. A bit similar to puzzle quest if i remember correctly, but without the rpg elements of course.

  5. They sound like a waste of time to me, why not get some petter games sony?

    • Well, it’s a distribution deal that probably took a couple of meetings to set up and another one to sign off on so not much time wasted.

Also, it’s not your time they’re wasting, it’s their own.

And, it’s not wasting time as these casual games have been extremely lucrative on every platform they’ve been released on so those few meetings will probably make Sony a fair bit of cash to pump into other PSN developments or, y’know, just buy lattés for the execs.

Just one more thing: Signing this deal doesn’t mean that SOE aren’t going to bother finishing any of the other projects they have in development, it’s an addition to the lineup. Something extra on top of the other stuff they’ve already announced.

      • I love you cb, everything I would’ve said, with less condecension. Well done.

  6. OMG bejewelled I was a PC junkey on this game but how will it transfer to PS3 im a bit worried…do hope it works tho my fave PC game…no my only PC game as they are all shit.

  7. I’ve got Peggle on my iPod and it is great fun in short bursts! Peggle trophies might tempt me to buy this PSN version as well though…

  8. I hope they put some multiplayer into these games, these kind of games are perfect for showing mums and grans the wonders of PS3. They’ve got real potential to be great family games, which is what the PS3 needs a bit of

  9. Free flash games FTW

    …Oh they’re charging for them… bugger

    • Hey, that Heavy Weapon is a great game.

I’m not sure about Bejeweled and such, though. I mean, fine on a PC, great on a phone, but a PS3? Seriously?

      • This is Living…

  10. I think i’ll most probably be grabbing these. they just seem like they’re gonna be perfect for killing five minutes while you’re waiting for something as apposed to loading up a BD game and having to turn it off just as it’s loaded :-)

  11. I love bejewelled. But I did hear that in the US they are going to be $9.99 so not sure what we can expect here but it will not be as cheap as I hoped.

  12. Bejeweled 2 – You swap adjacent gems to make sets of three or more. Clearing multiple sets gives you extra points. Getting four of the same in a row gives you a power gem, when that it destroyed (by getting at least three of the same gems) in a row it will explode destroying the surrounding gems. Getting five in a row will create a hypercube, which can be used as any coloured gem.
    Bejeweled 2

Zuma – You are a frog that shoots out randomly coloured balls. There is a squiggly path that a line of coloured balls follow. You shoot the coloured balls at the other balls, getting three of the same coloured balls in row makes them disappear and gives you points. The points fill up a bar, which when full stops more balls being added to the line. If the line of balls makes it to the end of the path, you lose a life.
    Zuma

    Peggle

    Feeding Frenzy

    Heavy Weapon

  13. Bejeweled 2 is almost the same as the PC version. It as one new game mode that I haven’t tried, but it’s probably not avalaible on the demo version.

But with very sweet 1080p graphics and a gameplay addictive a heroin, this game is a must own… for 5$Us. 10$US is a bit expensive!

I’ll wait for a price drop!

  14. OMG!! PEGGLE!!!111!1one111!

    I love that game!

I don’t really know why though.

    Wow, that’s sad.

  15. peggle is free on steam. it’s a fun little puzzler, but really nothing special.

  16. You sound like you’re proud about that fact.

  17. I shouldn’t be proud that someone can be a less condescending version of me? Are you sure?

  18. Actually, I just got the Bejeweled demo from the US store. It’s good for quick bursts and it’s got trophies. I might be convinced to buy it.
