Rockstar Games have officially announced Max Payne 3 for release in winter 09 on PS3, 360 and PC.
MP3 will be the first current gen sequel of the noir style cop shooter that pioneered that gaming staple, bullet time and I’m excited to see what stylistic direction Rockstar Vancouver will take using the power of the PS3.

As with most sequels making the leap to a new generation Rockstar are taking the series in a new direction following on from the events at the end of Max Payne 2.

“This is Max as we’ve never seen him before, a few years older, more world-weary and cynical than ever. We experience the downward spiral of his life after the events of Max Payne 2 and witness his last chance for salvation.”

The previous games in the series delved deep into the human psyche with a dash of the occult dragging Max through some pretty nasty situations. With all that the guy’s been through he’s looking worse for ware if the concept art above is anything to go by. Whilst those events would no doubt leave an impression on him you don’t often get to see how these things effect the characters in the long run. That said, this may be a very interesting chapter in the popular franchise.

I just hope the poor guy gets a break.
