Do you remember yesterday? I don’t, I spent until 11pm trying to sort out absolute & relative positioning in Internet Explorer, in the end I gave up and stuck FIFA on for a bit. Anyway what’s that got to do with the CryENGINE, well nothing but due to the mysteries of IE’s implementation of web standards it caused me to miss out on what could be quite a development in the the future of PS3 games.
Over in San Francisco at the Game Developer Conference Crytek were showing off the third implementation of their CryENGINE, which for some reason they’ve decided to call the CryENGINE 3, this time it was up and running on the PlayStation 3 (and Xbox 360) and it certainly is looking good.
Feast your eyes on the demo below and look out for some pretty lighting features, none of it pre-rendered and all running in real time.

I saw this yesterday but just watched it in Hi-res and wow!
Is this in a game yet or just showing off the engine?

Looking good. Can’t wait to see what games they’ll make with this.

Looks pretty sweet to me. I second TheDeathAvenger’s comment. Great engine, but I want to see the games in due course.

Almost as good looking as Crysis. I’m impressed.

Yeah but lets hope this time they make games with actual depth instead of great looking, shiny dross

Crysis isn’t that bad, being in control of the powers in the nanosuit can lead to some fun gameplay. Although I tend to use Strength too much, it’s just so damn useful!

Do I get any TSA points for reporting this about 3 days ago to TSA email?

I don’t like the fact that they’re misleading with their naming scheme.
It should be CryEngine:C(for console) or CryEngine 1.5 but definitely not 3.
I got all excited before I watched it only to realise it’s a dumbed down version of CryEngine 2 with, hopefully, better coding behind it.
Please be working on a PC engine Crytek!
Ranting aside……it looks very nice for a console
although judging by the speed the tech demo’s running at they need to do a lot of optimisation to get it running smoothly.

CryEngine 3 is not only built from the ground up, but includes a couple of features not found in the CryEngine 2. PC games will be developed with this, once the ones currently in development are out the way.

Ah, if they plan on using it for PC titles also, I hope it runs very well indeed, as graphically it seems to not have improved, instead using increased scalability and lower system requirements to warrant the ‘3′.
I’m just gutted Crytek have bitten the bullet and gone for console compatibility.
From a business point of view it’s a great idea, from a ‘pushing the envelope’ point of view it feels like a step in the wrong direction.

Oh god how I hate IE. Why is it so very, very weird? That’s the main thing I picked up from this. Also the engine looks nice.

Don’t panic about me being worried though. I am always happy.
