Everyone loves a sequel but not all sequels are created equal. I should be a rapper, G. Here's my personal favourite top ten sequels.

I love sequels, even when they’re technically prequels. Here’s my top ten, in no particular order (except SWoS is definitely the best) use the comments to let us know yours.

  1. Grand Theft Auto III: Vice City – In my eyes, this is the best instalment of the GTA franchise to date. GTAIV: Vice City would probably blow my mind.
  2. Metal Gear Solid 2 – Such a huge leap forward on the previous game. I rented Zone of Enders repeatedly just to play the demo level.
  3. Tekken 3 – A good franchise, the third iteration was by far the best.
  4. Super Mario Bros – Nobody cares about the original NES Mario. It was good for its time but it didn’t last. You can go and play this again now and it’s still the best controlling platformer around.
  5. Half Life 2 – The definitive FPS. This is the game that all other shooters were measured against for years.
  6. Command & Conquer: Red Alert – C&C was good, Red Alert raised the bar. I still don’t think there is another RTS that comes close.
  7. Call of Duty 4 – A massive move forward for the series and the genre. This made multiplayer a universal experience.
  8. Final Fantasy VII – Increased in scope and still eclipses all the more recent sequels. It was a high point in the best example of its genre.
  9. Championship Manager 3 – So addictive, so fun, so much better than the previous games. Everything a sequel should be.
  10. Sensible World of Soccer – Sensi was the most fun football game on 16-bit consoles but it was nothing in comparison to this. The greatest football game ever made.
