Has Stephen Fry just given the game away and announced a proper sequel to LittleBigPlanet? “Morning all. In studio today voicing 2nd edition of a video game,” tweeted Stephen Fry this morning. “Will check if I’m allowed to say what it is…” he followed up.  Yeah, you better had, because if you’re just spoiled Sony’s big E3 surprise then you won’t be flavour of the month.  Of course, we all love you to bits anyway, so don’t worry.

Whilst the guys in our forum speculate on just what this could be referring to, it’s worth remembering that the recently announced PSP version of LittleBigPlanet could well have a similar voiceover to the PS3 version, so Fry might well be recording for that one.  Still, as member Kevling said it’s interesting that he said “second edition” and not a “sequel”, prompting rumours that LBP could be going down the SingStar route with bonus packs and a “volume two” monicker.

We’ll see soon enough when Fry follows up the tweet.

Update.

Mr Fry is now back from the studio and has confirmed he was working on the PSP version. His tweet goes “I’ve come to the end of a lush voice-athon and yes, am empowered to confess that it was for a new PSP version of Little Big Planet.” Whilst many websites knew this already they were under an embargo not to release any details, this obviously doesn’t apply to celebs who like to tweet. Still, it is Stephen Fry so we can forgive him.

  1. I’ll buy you a beer next time I’m in Glasgow if it’s not PSP LBP. :)

  2. Yup, I don’t think this is an LBP2.
Why would they be making a brand new game already? The online content is still ramping up fast.

I don’t think there’ll be a need for an LBP2 for good few years yet. Mm are getting most of their money from DLC, so it’s more likely that Fry is working for DLC or the PSP version.

  3. My money’s on PSP LBP but he does say 2nd edition which could suggest a game of the year version with added content but even thats a bit far fetched. LBP 2 would be far too soon. It’s not exactly an IP that lends itself to a yearly release.

  4. What about the fact that there’s going to be much more limited capacity on the UMD? The voice over isn’t actually necessary for the game to work and I understand it’s been quite a task fitting everything into the game so far.

    Colour me intrigued.

  5. Damn. I was too slow with this one!

Should be interesting to see what it is.

LBP isnt the only video game he has narrated though – Fable 2, Harry Potter and Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts.

  6. Fable 3?
Thanks to Twitter we already know about that

2nd edition? perhaps a GOTY LBP with the metal gear stuff (and may be similar stuff from other franchises) other DLC and some top user levels on the disk.

and the extra voiceover stuff could be surrounding the metal gear or other level creator kits and maybe even online create tutorials

  7. didnt they once say they were going to release new story planets for the main game, could that be what it refers to?

  8. Hey, that’s me, mentioned on the front page! My work here is done.

  9. Woo very exciting! This second edition guff could explain why there have been bugger all level packs released for LBP.

  10. According to IMDB he also narrated the game of Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire. That never got a PS3 release.

Probably an outside bet tho :D

  11. I think liquid would be an awesome feature to add if possible.

  12. And then you can have scuba packs and sharks!!!

  13. The more I think about it, the more I think this could be the Singstar model.
The same basic game / tools / online facilities / DLC, but a different set of levels on disc, with the DLC complatible with all the discs.
The ‘planet’ on your map shows you your on-disc levels plus DLC (MGS), in the same way that the Singstar carousel shows you your on disc tracks, plus your DLC ones…
LBP Second Edition – same game, new levels – watch this space.

    • OK, you can stop watching this place now. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

  14. It’s the PSP version, he twittered it earlier..hopefully it will have some cool new features to enable you to use it with the PS3 version

  15. I posted this in the forum at 8:20ish
