A mash-up of news to follow. Say goodbye to Eidos and hello to Square Enix; Final Fantasy has sold more copies, than the population of Germany; and gyrating hips?

Well there you go. As we previously announced Square Enix’s takeover of UK-based publisher Eidos was going through before the end of May; yet before April has had a chance to say goodbye, the deal has been finalised. Square Enix have officially acquired Eidos and with it, some well known franchises such as Tomb Raider, Hitman and Deus Ex.

During a corporate strategy meeting they revealed the lifetime, worldwide sales figures for their three biggest franchises, and they just show how popular these series are:

  • Final Fantasy > 85 million units
  • Dragon Quest > 47 million units
  • Kingdom Hearts > 12 million units

Combine this with a franchise like Tomb Raider which has sold over 35 million units and Square have an impressive set of franchises to play with.

It is now time to say goodbye to Eidos, before it becomes whatever it becomes; SquEidos sounds interesting though.

On a more amusing note (and a story that didn’t really deserve one of it’s own), ESRB has rated the upcoming Platinum Games developed Bayonetta. Obviously it has received a Mature rating, how could it not? Filled with Blood and Gore, Intense Violence and Strong Language. But wait, what’s this? Partial Nudity and Suggestive Themes? Now, I know what you are thinking. Why report such crude, unimportant drivel? Well, because I thought of a smashing idea and I plan on sharing it. The rating summary mentions, “During the course of the game, some female characters perform suggestive taunts and poses, including opening their legs or gyrating their hips. Some of the more provocative outfits are shed during battle, resulting in brief depictions of buttocks and breasts.”

Perhaps Bayonetta will become a really good drinking game. Just play through it, and everytime the word Giggity pops into your head, you drink.
