“Everything will come to a head this Thursday,” says EA, “when the Cops and Robbers Pack for Burnout Paradise will be available for $9.99 / €9.99 / £7.99 / 800MS from an in-game Burnout Store near you.” So, if you were wondering what cutting humour and interesting commentary we were going to add to this story when you read the headline you’ll be sadly disappointed to learn that, as far as we can tell, that’s it. Sorry.

I was right about it being £7.99 and I’m wondering if it’s worth investing in for that much?

8 quid… they are having a laugh? 8 quid for a knock off of the Need for Speed Underground multiplayer mode?
I was pleased with the free updates we received and I’m greatful for those but if they halved the price of the DLC they would sell a lot more… and probably make the same profit rather than burning the few people who do buy it…
Getting angrier and more annoyed everytime they throw out DLC and practically double the price it should be sold at (IMO)
Also another trend which is really rubbing me up the wrong way…
Conversion rates (according to XE)
7.99 GBP = 11.7093 USD
United Kingdom Pounds United States Dollars
1 GBP = 1.46550 USD 1 USD = 0.682361 GBP
So are they getting it for $1.73 cheaper or are we being over charged… I’ll let y’all decide… I certainly wont be buying this…

These are wholesale rates that banks exchange at between themselves, retail rates are never that high, and Euro/UK is always more expensive than the States in the UK VAT = 15% in the US sales tax is around 7%
And we get paid more here, than they do over there.

I’m not against paying for DLC, but some of the Burnout stuff has been way over-priced. Criterion were doing so well, gaining admiration from many gamers for the free stuff they did. The Party Pack was decent value, but the extra car packs are ludicrously expensive for things they probably knock out in their lunch break.
I still want to know what justifies the Jansen 88 Special being twice the price of the other Legendary Cars. There’s something very wrong when 3 bits of DLC (the car packs) cost you almost as much as the full game. And I’m almost scared to think how much the Island is going to cost.
I want to get my Burnout trophies back to 100%, but I won’t be paying for any of the vehicle pack DLC until they release them all in a bundle for around £10. As for the Island… we’ll wait and see.

What justifies the Jansen being twice the price? Because it’s the one everyone wanted, unfortunately for us.

Yep, exactly. But if it was half the price (i.e. the same as the others) I bet it would have sold more than twice as many, making them more money.
But no-one ever sees it that way.

Well I’m definitely buying this, it looks like great fun…
As for exchange rates, remember that UK prices include VAT at 15%, US ones do not, so in effect, the DLC costs £6.95 ($10.18) + VAT. Not that different after all.

Same as most, not getting it due to daft pricing.
Brought the Legendary Cars pack purely on good will from the free updates, all DLC has been massively overpriced IMO

Nope, not for me. They are taking the cake on this one. I suggest half that price then it would be more worth it.

Executive: ‘WHAT? Free?!?’
Criterion: ‘Well, we have some premium DLC coming later…’
Exec:’Right, we’ll have to make them ridiculously expensive to make up for all the lost money we could have made on these free packs.’

The thing is, due to not many games being this well supported with DLC there is no bench mark for over pricing. I agree it is on the dear side but some of LBP stuff is just as scandalous. All said and done i’ll be buying it at some point.

I don’t understand why its different prices for the same DLC for 2 consoles:
PS3 £7.99;
360 800 points (which is approx £6.80).
Who decides the price for the DLC? Criterion or Sony/Microsoft?
If it’s Criterion, who manages the exchange rate?

360 stuff is (generally) set at standard price points. 400, 800, 1200 and 1500 (off the top of my head). Obviously weird stuff is priced at different point but for XBLA and DLC this is where it goes. The reason for the discrepancy I’d guess is that 800 points is $10, the same as the US pricing of the PS3 DLC.

There was a piece somewhere recently that explained that Sony charge all developers for selling there content by the Gigabyte. This explains the “free” network and the inflated prices for DLC.

Ill be getting it Day one! This is turning into the most expensive game I have ever bought.
Lets see $65 for the game + 7.99 for the Legends + $12.99 for the toys + $9.99 party pack + $9.99 C&R + 7.99 for the boosts = HOLY $hit thats alot of money ($114) + whatever the Island is gonna cost

I don’t feel too bad about the price as I haven;t bought any of the DLC yet. I try and make a point of only buying DLC that affects the gameplay, hence buying cars is out. No-one in the house is interested in Party play, so this is really the first one I’ve had any reason to buy, and I think it looks like a great addition to Freeburn.
The main question is, if the host starts a Cops n Robbers game, will you get kicked if you don’t have it? Historically, they said they did not want to fragment the online community, so it will be interesting to see how they deal with that.
I’ve sent that question through to Craig Sullivan at Criterion (Twitter @SargeSulivan), so hopefully he’ll answer it in his Tuesday Questions slot on their site…
