It seems like only yesterday when we revealed that Uncharted 2 was going to get a multiplayer section, but here we are with the first screenshots and details. It appears that multiplayer co-op will be 3 players, not 2, which is a neat twist, and will run alongside the single player campaign but offer a different story and fresh levels. There will be sections in the game that only work with 2 or 3 players, a la LittleBigPlanet (and Lost Vikings, huh?). There will be mini-bosses, and downed players will automatically revive after a few seconds if other players remain in the game.
The deathmatch mode, also shown in the screens below, will be comprised of 4 vs 4 game modes, with the players selected from two skills before each game, loosely defining a class-based system. Exploring in the deathmatch mode will reveal the strongest weapons. Another mode playable will be Capture The Treasure, which, obviously, will work much like Capture The Flag games do with each team trying to steal treasures from the enemy base. Uncharted 2 is shaping up to be a fantastic looking game, and if you want to get your hands on an early beta you know what to do.

That’s what I want to know as well. I really hope there is an option to play the coop locally.

I’m slowly getting more and more interested on this, and I was pretty interested in the first place. It IS Uncharted, after all.

I love the first one. I really really really hope that multiplayer does not hamper the single player in this sequel. I never really like the idea of multiplayer running along side the single player. I like all the story to be revealed at my own pace and not whilst mixing it up with other people. Last game I know of that attempted that was Haze.
Naughty Dog, for the love of all things Uncharted – don’t let this flop!

Haze? this doesn’t sound anything like haze.

The co-op needs to be a full story mode like RE5, I found that worked really well. The Resistance 2 co-op was crap and seemed a little tokenistic.
If there’s no sign of a UK inFamous/Uncharted 2 beta pre-oder deal (yeah right…) I’m hoping my beta badge is gonna get me in on the action.

I disagree. I felt that the co-op in Res 2 worked so well because it was pinned on next to the single player.

I don’t know what to think!
On one hand it is Uncharted and it’ll look and feel great…
But. Is it the type of game that lends itself to this kind of multiplayer? I’m not convinced (yet).
Although, it looks as though the capture a ‘treasure’ looks fun.

I’m in the same boat. I don’t think the game lends itself well to multiplayer.
Metal Gear was also a game I thought didnt lend itself to a good quality multiplayer experience… and I was right, personally anyway.

I think the main problem with this as a multiplayer is that whilst there are plenty of baddies to fight for, there is only Drake and a couple of helpers on the good side.
Unless of course the new story has a larger support group fighting with Drake.

Cool, just plain cool.
I love uncharted and hope the multiplayer stands up to the single player campaign of the first story.
I’d love to play this and can’t wait….

“will run alongside the single player campaign but offer a different story and fresh levels”
That is the most important bit of info. Forcing co-op in the main story would ruin it. Res Evil 5 being the best of example of why you don’t force it.

I hope the multiplayer is completely optional, and ND don’t shoo in dirty “Play 1000 online matches” trophies to boost participation, like some other games…

If the MP is in there from release, then there will be Trophies for it

Simple trophies I don’t mind. I can deal with MP, it’s just when there’s an unrealistic target set that it detracts from the fun. I know you’ll say that trophies aren’t everything and just enjoy the game, and I agree to an extent, but it does alter my mindset slightly if I feel like I should be working towards something. Plus, there’ll be 1000(0)s of people that will be aiming specifically for the trophies, rather than having fun, which does affect the overall online experience (I’m looking at the KZ2 points grind-fest here).

I hope there isn’t the same repetitive voiceover that plagues KZ2 everytime the game mode changed

Well, the first is pretty much the most fantastic thing in the whole world ever.
But it was so good because of it’s purely singleplayer experience.
I’m sure that this will be amazing too, but just as long as it doesn’t detract from the singleplayer!
Naughty Dog have said that the singleplayer is longer than the last game, so hopefully the co-op will compliment the story instead of detracting!
(Or just being random battles like Resistance 2 -__-)

Uncharted, like most, is one of my top ps3 games. And I have been looking forward to the sequel since before it was announced. I’d like to think that Naughty Dog would not implement a multiplayer mode if it was going to at all compromise the single player campaign that so many people loved from the first one. With the matches being 4 vs 4 I am confident that the sequel will keep all that we loved whilst adding more to the game.

Please please please dont let this suck.
I love the idea of co-op, it suits Uncharted. Online multiplayer I’m not so sure about. You cant just use generic characters and by the looks of things theyve implemented real characters :S
Not sure about this. Here’s to me being proved wrong.
