Hi CC_Star/Gamoc - Just wanted to apologize, I get a little excited about my PC (it's still only 3 or 4 months old), and I realize my opinions kind of had no place in this particular discussion. So, please forgive the intrusion.

First; there are already games that require the latest graphics cards to run at full graphics, for example, and they happen to release with the graphics card, too. You don't think that the guys that make these things keep their specs from the developers, do you?

Graphics cards release yearly. My dad's got a quad core PC with all the trimming, except for a Geforce 8600. It barely manages Crysis and, well, that's only a generation of graphics cards from the latest (last time I checked, anyway).

My PS3 died a few months after I got it and I got it replaced for free. And as far as why you'd have to replace parts on your PC, I meant to play the very latest games in a couple of years, not because they broke, I've never had parts break in a PC before, just the damn OS fucking things up.

And I've never noticed any popup in GTA IV before :-/

Firstly, why would I _have_ to replace the parts on my PC? The thing is, that may actually occur for your PS3, but you don't have the option of being able to replace them, you're forced to pay $150 to Sony at a flate rate (By the way, the customer service on this is excellent...waited 11 days when my 60g yellow lighted, so not a complaint or anything).

Whereas, the part that may/may not fail on my PC, would be replaceable by me, and (typically) for less than $150, and may even still be under warranty, PC parts manufacturers will allow RMA's for years after the product was purchased...for free.

I understand what you're saying Gamoc, but I don't run into those problems with my PC's. The only time I've ever had a catastrophic failure, was my fault, and well, we'll leave it at that lol. But, I've had a PC running alongside my consoles well, for about as long as I've had consoles. I guess I'm lucky there.

Well, you know, graphics don't make a super game, you're right, but crappy graphics on a decent game, don't necessarily help either. The popins/screen tearing prevalent for the console GTA was pretty bothersome. Completely eradicated when I brought it to my PC though.

Lastly, again, you're missing my point here. The hardware industry progresses at a tremendous pace, you're absolutely 100% correct on that Gamoc, absolutely no disagreement there. However, you're wrong if you think that when a new piece of hardware is released, that developers are automatically adding it's abilities to their app. Think on it this way, a game released today, has likely been in production for at least 2 years, give or take, right? Well, the past 2 years worth of hardware, wouldn't be included w/in optimization for that app, as the developers weren't privy to those specs with their SDK's. You follow?

Basically, it boils down to, the hardware you buy, can be as cutting-edge, and brand spanking new as money can buy, but unless you've got a team of software engineers/developers living in your home constantly updating your software, you'll be waiting at least 2 or 3 years before companies start to take advantage of that hardware.

I said HAVE to replace parts of my PS3. I've upgraded my PS3's hardrive too, but I didn't HAVE to.

And regardless of how advanced your PC is now, a couple of years will see that it isn't. PC gaming advances way too quickly.

I used game on PC too (I was in a clan of MOHAAS, for example), but I do prefer consoles for it all now. I don't even have a PC anymore, just my laptop, which I rarely ever play games on and, when I do, they're either very small games or strategy games.

And yeah, yeah, graphics, graphics. I don't personally think the ridiculous amount you paid for the PC justified everything looking a bit prettier.

I can to Raen, the point is, I can run them all at 1920x1200 resolution, FSAA (when necessary), DX10.1 @ rock solid 60fps+. Whereas, the consoles would gasp and die, if they were pushed to those extremes. And that's IF the hardware doesn't fail on you, no, it's not an attempt to start a failure rate discussion, the fact is, my last PC lasted me 7 years before i replaced it...but it still works. When your 360 has reached the 7 year mark, let me know.

By the way, I realize that this is a debate regarding exclusives on the consoles, however, the point that people are attempting to make is, there's only one console with exclusives, when you factor in the PC market, and that's the PS3.

Unless, of course, you realize where the mainstream developement process is at for most software. Simply put, developers are only now starting to optimize for 2 cores, let alone 4. There are currently 2 games that come to mind, that do this, GTAIV and World of Warcraft. The rest, are mainly single cored apps. What that means, is buy a Quad Core now, and it'll still be competitive in the long term.

As for having to replace parts, again, you have to plan this stuff accordingly. The mobo, gpu, cpu, etc... all of those things are so high-end, that any upgrade would be miniscule at best. Currently, the biggest bang for my buck would be going to dual GTX260's in SLI. Replacing my CPU, or RAM, would be a minor upgrade seeing as CPU/GPU/RAM have to be clocked with each other in mind (otherwise you have RAM outputting data much faster than the CPU/GPU can handle/read, and vice versa). I could keep going, but the point remains, the hardware I currently have, is vastly beyond any game that's currently out there. And while new pieces of hardware may come out between now and then, the software engineering process is still behind in optimizing for the newer gen technology.

And yes, you do replace parts in your PS3, at least, I have. I swapped the original 60g with a 320g SATA2. Took 5 minutes, and the added storage space, not to mention improved load/save times, is definitely welcome.

Additionally, the consoles also won't get GTAIV @ 1920x1200, with no popins or screen tearing. The Consoles also won't get free content updates. The list really goes on and on. I can appreciate your liking for consoles, but the days of consoles actually having more power (and longevity for that matter) than PC's, is long, long over.

K/M vs controller is most certainly a matter of opinion, however, when put into practice in real life, the K/M setup's going to win, every single time, with regards to precision, response times etc...

By the time you put it all together the things you bought at the beginning of that 6 months are not quite as high end as they were when you bought them, though. Not to mention that you'll have to replace the parts, which I will never, ever have to do with my PS3. I don't suffer through Windows on my console, either, and my console won't get those stupid niggles that always appear on PCs.

And Controller Vs. Keyboard/Mouse is an opinion, and I prefer controllers.

It probably wouldn't, a lot of 360 owners aren't necessarily that kind that would buy GTAIV.

And Gran Turismo released on PC, when exactly? God of War? Twisted Metal? Point is, the exclusives to the PS1/PS2/PS3 never hit PC.

I disagree, while the upfront cost of a PC does indeed overshadow a console, there are many steps you can take to curb that cost, additionally, the PC stays far more competitive than the console as time progresses.

Over the course of 6 months, I hand picked a mobo, gpu, cpu, RAM, HDD's, box, CPU cooler, optical drives and cables... And paid for them, piece by piece by piece. I went high-end, for the most part, however, I cut corners/costs only in very certain areas that wouldn't directly impact performance.

My end result, is a monster machine. Core 2 Quad, GTX260 Core 216, 4g if DDR3 XMS3 RAM @ 1500mhz, and a whole lot more. Yeah, if I would've bought them outright, it would've cost me a pretty penny. However, making the purchase drag over the course of 6 months, really fit my budget perfectly. And...to this day I have no need of anything other than a PS3 for SCE's 1st party exclusives. The rest, I get on PC, via GfW, have my buddies from XBL through the GfW service, etc.. And seriously...playing GTAIV @ 1920x1200 is just amazing ;)

Plus, nothing beats keyboard/mouse support for FPS'.

Here's my take on the exclusivity issue. As long as you spend some time building a PC rig that's capable of playing Crysis/Crysis Warhead @ Enthusiast. You only need a PS3 and Wii, to play every game you want to play. Imo, MS kinda shot themselves in the foot, by not only releasing 99% of the 360 'exclusives' on the PC...but even worse by allowing them to be so vastly superior to their console counterparts. Additionally, considering GfW = XBLA...and it's free, and PC DLC usually comes as free patches... I just don't see the point in buying a 360. Not to mention that the hardware that's in my PC...I KNOW is manufactured professionally, and put together in a professional manner. Whether the 360 still suffers the same atrocious failure rate, doesn't matter, the fact that it could happen, is enough to make me want to save my money for future PC/PS3 games.

That leaves needing the PS3/Wii. I'm not a huge Wii fan, tbh, so I have my PS3 for games that will never see the light of day, on any other platform. Gran Turismo 5, GoWIII??? Yes please....Twisted Metal? You bet. Sony may have made errors in their business model this gen, but they've still got it right with never releasing their first party titles on PC. It means you HAVE to have a PS3, if you want these games. (Emulation aside, because emulation for PS games is atrocious). But, all multiplatform titles, I buy for PC.

Just my 2 cents.
