More Twitter madness, so if you’re still not following us (and everyone else) then surely it’s time to wake up: this time it’s the turn of GameFork, who appears to know Microsoft’s E3 conference inside and out. Normally this wouldn’t concern us, but when there’s talk of a new Metal Gear Solid being exclusive to the big white box, well, we thought we’d better mention it.
There’s quite a lot in that particular Twitter feed, namely referencing APB (“could well be a GTA killer”), a new motion camera, Alan Wake, Lost Planet 2, Assassin’s Creed 2, Bioshock 2 and whatever “Richter” turns out to be (Fable 3?). But the really interesting bit is Metal Gear Solid 4 + Oxide, which appears, according to GameFork, so be the conclusion to the conference and is exclusive to the 360.
Yes, it’s from last week, and yes the Tweeks appear to have stopped, but we’ll keep an eye on this and update if we get any further information through. All signs would point to Microsoft having something big in the bag this year, after all, they have to top the Final Fantasy XIII thing, don’t they? We can’t wait for the response: E3 is just over a couple of weeks away…

That feed is either one massive hoax, or it is someone in MS’s PR dept firing up the hype train.
Either way though, I love the way Microsoft always have a megaton announcement at every event, whereas we know what Sony are doing right through 2009/10… I mean all the GoWIII stuff we’ve seen already should have been saved for E3, as well as the MAG stuff etc…
There is every chance that MS will steal the show, and all we’ll get is a bunch of trailers about titles that have already leaked/been announced.

SONY are probably keeping some big announcements for E3 – I hope this year is as big and inspiring as it has been in the now distant past.

Hope this isn’t true, not because of the game (found it a bit rubbish, to be honest) but because of the months of internet gloating/wailing this will set off.
If it does happen, I think I’ll be staying away from all gaming sites for at least 2 weeks to let it all calm down.

2 weeks? A tad optimistic. Aren’t we still hearing the FFXIII bullpoop every time there’s a new (or old) preview of it?

Bullshit. Do you really think they could fit MGS4 onto a DVD?

…I never thought of that. I still doubt it’s gonna happen. Just look how many PS3 references are throughout MGS4 – Kojima likes Sony, thats for sure.

Yes they could eaisly fit it onto 1 single disk
You can fit an unbelievable amount of data on a DVD, the compression, and on the fly un-compression techniques are improving all the time, and if this is true and is a purpose designed 360 exclusive it will be designed from the ground up with the 360 in mind
The sound will probably be in a compressed form, whereas a lot of PS3 games have a 7.1 lossless format (which fills up no end of space on PS3 Blu-ray releases, just because they can) and it also won’t need hundreds of copies of the same textures, to make up for a slower access speed of the 2 X speed PS3 Blu-ray drive.
One of the reasons that Blu-ray games fill up so mch of the disk, is because devs don’t need to waste time compressing things because of the space… it doesn’t mean it couldn’t fit on to a DVD.
The superiority complex about the Blu-ray drive is unfounded, yes it has obvious advantages, but I’m not convinced those advantages will be realised for another 3-4 years, after all PC games have the best graphics of all, by a very long way, and they are released on DVD.

Thanks this is pretty much every point I was going to make
And as far as I know there are one or two 360 games which require a disk change already. It’s not exactly that crazy if it does go to two disks.

The advantage with blu-ray is that it has a constant read speed and that it holds alot more data. To get the most out of a DVD9, the data you need to read the fastest must be on the outside of the disc.
With blu-ray at 2x (PS3 drive) you are getting a consistent read speed throughout the disc, which is slower than a DVD9’s top speed, but faster than DVD9’s slowest. Which is why developers duplicate the code to decrease seek times on the PS3.
I’m with cc_star on the waiting 3-4 years to reach it’s potential.
I think MGS going to 360 would be a logical step for Konami. It would bring in more money, and Konami deserve more profit for their efforts. I think it would be multiple discs if it is to happen, but with the option of full game installs on the 360, that shouldn’t be a problem. And Xbox Live could certainly give MGS online a massive boost.

A few months ago, I was on Wikipedia and I saw something about a X360 MGS4 coming out, I think, November or October, though I am not sure if it was from 2008 or 2009. Then, a week later, that part of the article was gone. Weird

I thought that the cut scenes, although lengthy, were extremely interesting and very emotional. I don’t know why anybody would whine about them, there was an option to skip them. It seemed more like an experience than just a game. Anyways, I suppose we’re all entitled to our own opinions.

If only Sony had some super announcement. Its getting close to MGS4 1 year anniversary, perhaps the PS3 will get the extended version while xbox get the standard edition. Konami have said to keep an eye on the PS Blog. You never know.
One can hope.

I wonder if we’ll finally hear anything about the ‘amazing’ PS3 game that the BBC mentioned last year?

It has most likely been and gone already, and as it turned out wasn’t actually that amazing after all, but the reporter just got caught up in the moment

Actually, I remember reading a comment he made after the Tokyo Game show last year that the game wasn’t Heavy Rain and it still hasn’t been announced yet. He said that it wouldn’t be revealed until this year, so here’s hoping that it shows up at Sony’s press conference. (I will try and find where this is written).
I think they probably will have a few bombshells this year as there hasn’t been any news or hints of unnanounced games for a while from Sony and they always announce pretty big game releases at E3, especially this year as it is supposed to be the “Return of E3″.
I don’t know why but I like being optimistic about Sony.

Just to let you know, I tracked down the twitter account of the journalist who was shown the game and wrote the article. I asked him if the game he saw had been announced and he replied, “Nope!”.
Maybe we should be optimistic about this!

I for one am pretty excited to hear this. I’m really hanging a lot of hopes on the MS press conference this year. I mean assuming my 360 comes back from Germany that is.

Hmm i would hope that isn’t true. Every console needs exclusives. PS3 needs MGS4 just like 360 needs Gears etc. But like my opinion makes a difference anyway…
The game sold quite a few copies on the PS3 if i remember rightly. I would have thought that all the time and money it would take the basiclly remake the game for the 360 would just about obliviate any profits they made from GoTP.

For purely selfish reasons, I hope this isnt true. I dont have a problem with the 360, its a great machine, but obviously my preference lies with the PS3. It’d be great for the PS3 to keep ONE universally acclaimed and commercially succesful franchise under its belt. Every other exclusive seems to either bomb critically or most likely, commercially (looks at you Ratchet and Killzone.)
Besides, cant MS come up with some new franchises for the xbox instead of knicking everyone elses.

I do not want mgs on xbox. No matter how bad it is. If they do make mgs for xbxo. It better be their own one, not a scaled down one just to fit it onto a DVD.
I highly doubt it will go onto xbox, but theres still a chance.
also can anyone post me a pm saying when the next E3 will be. thanks.
