Still no new information on the game, but these screens recently released look wonderful. The game, described by Disney as “an intense action racing game set within the world of a hyper-competitive reality television show” looks set to impress just as much as Pure did when it releases in early 2010. “Competitors in Split Second don’t just collide with other vehicles to knock them from the track,” says the press release, “they can also trigger explosive events that drastically alter the dynamics of the race. Players must use strategy and pinpoint timing to derail opponents, tactically alter the track or create entirely new routes.”

“Split Second elevates action racing to a new level by enabling players to strategically take out their opponents by dynamically altering the course in real time,” said Craig Relyea, senior vice president of global marketing, Disney Interactive Studios. “We’re creating huge memorable moments on par with the biggest blockbuster action films,” said Nick Baynes, game director, Black Rock Studio. “Action racing has captured the imagination of video game fans worldwide and we’re going to redefine that experience with Split Second.” It certainly looks the part: check out the screens below and let us know what you think in the comments.

  1. Looks good but I’m not too interested in this game.

  2. I’m not really digging the TV show aspect of the gameplay, but this is looking pretty damn nice. I’ve been hoping for another pure arcade racer like Burnout 2 for years now, and hopefully this can near as fill the slot.

  3. Burnout with controlled explosive environments… What’s not to like, this could be special.

  4. would rather have a new burnout. saw the trailer for this and it looks good but not even as good as paradise city. i kinda like the controlled explosion thing but not enough to buy it.

    • Did you want to give it a chance first before jumping to conclusions about it while it’s still a long time from release?!

      • No. No he doesn’t.
        ;)

  5. well i would probably have a go of a demo if there was one released to see how it is but i doubt id ever love a racing game as much as burnout. we shall see.
anyway stop picking on me tel!! haha

    • Only playing wit cha ;)

  6. I downloaded the trailer off US store about a month ago and it looks amazing. Mix between burnout, flatout and stuntman :D :D:D

  7. Definitely looking forward to this game.

  8. It definitely looks nice. If this is it now, I want some awesome improvement for 2010.

  9. Are those ingame graphics?
    If so, then that’s fantastic!
The set piece explosions and whatnot sound great! Could be fantastic when it comes out :D

  10. Design Director at Black Rock is one Paul Glancey, ex-Criterion, so I have high hopes for this…

  11. If the cars handle well then this could be a real winner as the graphics speak for themselves and it would be nice to see some new scenery different to paradise city.

  12. When me and DJH were at Black Rock I think we heard Split Second being played in the next room. There were certainly playing something with tire squeals etc… I can say that it did sound like a fun game.

  13. I didn’t like the the Pure demo so never played that. This looks good tho will be another preowned game for me.

  14. This game looks very nice.
