We’re big fans of Burnout Paradise here at TSA, but I am personally still to purchase Big Surf Island.  I tried, on Sunday, but the game returned an error code and I haven’t tried since; that’s likely to change now, mind, because it appears Big Surf Island includes four Toy versions of the cars in the Legendary pack, making the Island seem relatively cheap in comparison to some of the other recent Paradise DLC.

To grab the Toy Hunter Cavalry Bootlegger simply jump from all 15 of the Island’s Mega Jumps.  To get the Toy Jansen P12 88 Special (you know, the one that looks a bit like the Delorean) hit all 45 of the Island’s billboards.  To bag the Kitt-esque Toy Carson GT Nighthawk complete all 24 of the Island’s Road Rules (both Timed and Showtime) and finally, to get the Ecto-1 inspired Toy Hunter Manhattan Spirit hit all 75 of the Island’s smashes (those yellow gates).

Pretty neat, actually, and I’ll be certain to give Big Surf Island another go tonight so I can sample these new cars, I’m also yet to download any of the Toys or the Legendary cars…

      • P12 Diamond Edition

  3. I have to wait till next tuesday to pick this up. roll on payday

  4. I’m simply amazed with the amount of DLC for Burnout Paradise.

  5. Good news, nice one Nofi, this makes it totally worth buying for me as I’ve only bought the toy bike. Now payday = Burnout day.

  6. I had the Legendary Car Pack already, but this certainly makes the Big Surf Island more fun. I’m HALF tempted to get the Cops and Robbers/Toy Packs, just so that I can get 100% of the trophies; Burnout’s given me so much great gameplay and Criterion’s DLC packs, even if they are a lil overpriced, are a great example of how to keep a game going, and I’ll pay for this sort of support, as it’ll encourage Criterion to keep up a similar practice with its future titles (remember there were a year of free updates too!).

    • I’ve just got the Boost Specials on my list to get and then I’m done. I only got the toy bike and one toy car though. Kind of figured the amusement of having a tiny car would fade if I had 10 (or however many there were) of them.

So is this Burnout Paradise officially 100% complete now then? No more DLC or updates? Just maintaining the online service and the occasional Crash FM podcast?

  7. when this was originally announced ages ago, when the DLC (or GCC as they called it) used to be free, I would have bought this – but now i remain to be convinced

I still see it as being massively overpriced … £4.99 yes, but £9.99 !

  8. I can’t believe the argument some people were having on the forums because this was posted in the news section – ridiculous!

  9. The island gates are orange, Nofi ;)

    • Well picked up!

  10. Big Surf Island is pretty good value for your money and if you only want to pay for 1 piece of DLC for BurnOut make it this one – even though it is the most expensive..

And you can get 2 of the toy car specific trophies with the toy cars from Big Surf.

    • That’s good news… can you get the Legendary trophies with them as wewll?

      • I don’t know. I read somewhere that you couldn’t but I doubt the source had tested it.

  11. yea wedgie it was a bit ridiculous that people were moaning so much…
technically i was right because this has been posted as a news article on the site so therefore is news…
dunno what they were on about.
surely i should now be awarded tsa points for posting a ‘news’ article before it was officially posted on the site? :D

  12. I was dead chuffed when I unlocked that 88 Special without realising it was there. I’ve now unlocked all 4 toy cars, the Governor, and the Dust Storm Superturbo, so only have two* left. and I’ve been playing on The Island for 6+ hours, so I’m not sure where the 5 hour playing time came from. Either that, or I’m crap ;) The latter is probably more likely.

    * Given that one of them requires me to do all 490 mainland challenges, I’ll probably never get that one.

  13. Got all of them apart from the diamond thingy. But I’m about 460 online challanges away from that one.

    • Same here. The toy Nighthawk is awesome.

  14. I love Big Surf, it was worth it before I even knew about the toy cars, the island isn’t very big, but it isn’t the size that counts, it’s how you use it. ;) And Criterion used it well. :D

    • Could have done with some more online challenges though, only 10 is a bit stingy.

      • True, but they changed how online challenges worked – they are no longer “number of player” specific on the island.
There may have been 490 on the mainland, but the majority of them were duplicated across the 2 player, 3 player, 4 player (etc) lists. I’ve no idea what the number of unique challenges were, but I bet it was more like 70 to 100.

  15. I’m loving the island at it really has brought me bad to the game in a big way. I never completed the main city so will have to go back and sort that out once the island is done.

It is a shame that I will never get some trophies having started the game way before the patch came out and my refusal to restart the game.
