The UK Government’s Digital Britain report was published today and the most immediate piece of news to hit us was the assignation of responsibility for rating video games to be given to the Pan European Games Information (PEGI) service whose ratings involve those little pictures of syringes and explosions.

This means that the British Board of Film Classification will no longer play a role in rating games in the UK so gone are the red-circle ratings everyone in the UK will be familiar with. There will no longer be a need for dual-rating on box art and the government will be working with the Video Standards Council (VSC) to help arrange a consistant and clear set of rating images that will be easily understandable for parents and retailers.
