No need to apologise. You both kept the discussion level-headed. It's just that the forum is a better place than the comments for 'conversations'.

And apologies to you too Colmshan, didn't mean like an argumentative get.

My bad.

Yeah, Speed was a 572MB download for me last night. On top of the 608MB patch.

The 1.03 update included lots of things though:

http://vip.motorstorm.com/ms/portal/article.psml?extResourcePath=%2FLandingPageArticle%2FGU3Ann.html&target=%2Facwce-motorstorm_home-article

And I expect that like zb100 has been explaining it will contain the resources for all the vehicles in the Speed and Adrenaline packs so that your Motorstorm can display them when other online racers are using them. They may have taken the opportunity to fix track exploits and glitches too like they did with the last update, though that's just speculation.

If you want to continue the discussion please move it to the forums.

Well I now have no clue as to what the 1gb adds up to other than microbadges as the expansion download are not unlock keys but the actual extra tracks, according to some who have downloaded the speed expansion and the adrenaline expansion off the Hong Kong store. Seems we were both wrong.

Ok, I think I've just answered that to a certain extent - the version of Burnout Paradise I downloaded was 3325MB, I don't know if that included any updates already, however Burnout Paradise is now 4018MB, which is a growth of 693MB - well on it's way to 1GB.

Given all that they've added to Burnout in terms of physical content is one island and some vehicles, I think 1GB for 3 completely new maps, 3 track variants & 4 new vehicles, that's pretty decent.

It's the graphics for maps & textures that take up the space...

Actually, would somebody, anybody, please step in here & translate for me? I'm having really issues trying to understand this person's beef. Is it just me or are all of his arguments completely applicable to Burnout and any other game that you play online with updates?

For all the reasons listed above. Exactly the same as Burnout. You would also have the livery packs if you were paying attention.

Seriously, I don't see why you keep banging on about it. Everybody does NOT have to download content. If you don't want to play online you don't have to get the updates. If you do want to play online, then dry your eyes and man up!

You don't happen to work for Criterion do you? If so, please could you tell me the original Burnout Paradise size & the size after all the installs? Thanks.

You can say that there are worse culprits for the size, but so far for 1gb of updates all I have got are microbadges. Not worth it for me. Not everyone wants to download the DLC, so why must everyone download, but most can't use it?

Ah, right, I can see where you're coming from now but what you're missing is that fact that yes, you can pick which track you want to race in single player but not if you join a multi-player, the host chooses track and vehicles.

Perhaps if they'd implemented a system similar to Warhawk where you can see what add-on packs people had installed, yes, your concept would work. But they haven't.

And again, I have to ask how big the additional content is for Burnout. Sorry, but I really think you;'re clutching at straws here - I see your point but it's just the way of it. No point harping on about the install size - there's certainly worse culprits out there!

What I mean is that because Burnout is an open world game, if you didn't download for example Big Surf Island, online gaming wouldn't work. You would drive near the bridge and see cars vanishing or something. With Motorstorm thst would never happen as it is menu navigable. You select what you are going to do and do it. So why take up the space for something which isn't necessary. We don't need to download the extra tracks if we can't pick them from the menu. Instead of an optional 100kb unlock key and a compulsary 600mb download we should get an optional 600mb download. If I want to race online in an original track then why must I download the DLC which I can't even use? There won't be others in my race on the other track but in Burnout if I'm racing there could be someone in my session playing the cops n' robbers download, so there is no need for the same download system in both games.

Eh? It's EXACTLY the same model as Burnout. Something new comes up, you download the upgrade & then pay to unlock it. Either I'm missing something or you are...

Anybody got any idea how big Burnout is now compared to the original install? Purely out of interest!

My complaint is that everybody has to have this update if they want to go online, but not everybody will want the DLC. So why does everyone have to sacrifice HDD space for something a lot of people won't want? It's not like Burnout which is an open world game so if something is added you have to have it included, but locked until you pay. There are menus in Motorstorm so there is no reason everyone has to have this, is there?

PS Sorry if that sounded a bit blunter than intended, but I really don't see your issue. The bods are busy upgrading MotorStorm:PR & adding lots of new features for us to play with. In order for a person to race against those that have upgraded, they therefore need to also have the content on their drive. Personally, I don't think it's ridiculous - if you don't wish to race against others that are happy to have extra content, don't go online.

Sorry, but it's infuriating comments like these that made me move from ThreeSpeech to TheSixthAxis ages ago.

But you can't race online! If you had a 20gb hdd PS3 that came out in the US you would be down over 5% of your harddrive straight away! Ridiculous!

That's not a criticism though as they're not patches required to actually make the game playable - it's still perfectly functional. They're to enhance gameplay rather than fix it. If you don't want them, just play whilst the PSN is offline!

If you go into the free play thing, the speed ticket thing is listed. Looks like all I need now is a 100kb key to unlock it.

I think the first one was better but thats probably because it was quite a new concept and an early title on the console. I like the second one (which is waaay better than any of the demos I tried btw) but I don't know if it would be worth getting given your current games. Perhaps a second hand copy for cheaps?
