Earlier today Take-Two’s upcoming first person shooter sequel Bioshock 2 was delayed, along with Mafia II, Max Payne 3 and Red Dead Redemption, until Fiscal 2010. With only a rough date to go on, fans of the series that were hoping for a 2009 release are wondering exactly what might have caused the delay. Well, it’s not one single reason, and thankfully, nothing to do with any particular platform, with Take-Two simply citing “development issues”.

A fairly loose term, and one that can apply to any number of things, but Take-Two didn’t want to risk pushing out an “extremely valuable franchise” before it was ready. With Bioshock 2′s brand loyalty at stake, the publishers took the step of delaying the release of the game until those issues could be worked out, meaning the game now has the chance to be as good as it can be. It also means that the title will escape the Christmas rush and hopefully have some breathing room when it launches next year.
