Elite for £199.99 is good value, I’m not so sure about the Arcade at £159.99 with zero games though
Does the Elite have WiFi built in?

Bit wordy. And it’s just their US ad. However making that US ad the box is a great idea.

£159.99 for the Arcade is taking the p!$$. £199.99 is a good price for an Elite providing you get the Jasper model with the latest tech inside. Before the price hike you were better off buying an Arcade and then a 120gig HDD for peace of mind.
Not a bad price but I still think that is not competitive enough with a PS3 Slim going at RRP of £249.99 and seen much cheaper on many online stores. If (and that is a big if) Sony market this right they could potentially dominate Xmas 09. You are after all getting much more than just a games machine with the PS3.

Does the Slim do everything that the Fatty does, just with cheaper parts to maintain a cheaper retail price?

Yes, and a couple of things more, like Bravia Sync and a couple of extra audio formats – the only thing missing is the option to install another OS

Yeah, PS3Slim is 249, with about 80 quids worth of games (only a good deal if you actually want those games of course) and around £229 on its own. This makes the £199.99 for the Elite seem OK, but you still get stiffed on near essential accessories like the WiFi adapter and the wireless charge kit (or whatever they’re called) for the controllers, which put the cost of the Elite up to £265… plus a further £26 for a years Gold.
Yup Sony have have a good deal… now lets see them tell everybody.

Cool, lets hope they dont screw up the marketing then which so far, in the next gen phase, has been pretty much non-existent in comparison to MS.
They love to dig themselves a hole dont they?!

Ps3 wifi is built in, and why use a wireless charge pad when USB works fine? Or did I misunderstand you CC?

thanks i will check that out, although it makes my decision about where to pre-oder it from much harder. Shopto.net are now doing the slim with three games for 249.99 quid as well

Prices are retail rather than RRP. If you look around you can find very good deals.

Have I a comment above correctly?
If I want a wireless controller, I also have to buy a charger for it?
The controller can’t be charged directly from the console like the PS3 controller can?

You can charge it, but the controllers come with sockets for standard batteries rather than the rechargable pack (they’re the same form factor though). You can charge it direct from the console via a USB cable that comes with the recharge battery stuff.

So the controller straight out of the box, only works with normal batteries?
I will also need to by a rechargeable battery pack?

good job for me as pay day is tomorrow or i probaly might have when i was in town……i wonder if shops try to get rid of the 60 gig xbox360 with a good price or bundle just to clear stock out

A 60gig for 159.99 or an Arcade for the same… I think it will sell out all by itself.

at the new prices microsoft might as well get rid of the arcade to as for a extra £40 you get 120gig hard with the elite it makes no sense to buy an arcade for what you dont get with it

The Arcade is only a marketing tool so that MS can say they have the cheapest of the current-gen consoles. They sell far fewer Arcades than either Pros or Elites.

Or a 80gb PS3 before the price cut, then hear about a Slim PS3, with 120gb and cheaper?

with the add-ons most people need, it makes the price to high. BUT the price tag on the adverts and in the shop window still says to “Mum and Dad” this xmas the 360 is cheaper… Sony really need to hit the advertising hard this year, and kick the 360 into touch

True, but the difference in price isn’t that great any more. Mention a built in Blu-Ray and they’re sorted.

I see they’ve removed the one out-of-the-box advantage the Elite had over the PS3. The HDMI cable is no longer included.

i wonder if anyone could help me…how do i get dolby digital out of the elite, is it just like my ps3 and connect it to my amp by hdmi or is it different. i ask this because i have been reading that microsoft have took a few thinks out the elite box to get it to £199.99.. i.e hdmi cable, componet cable. audio adapter

When I bought my Elite, it came with a HDMI cable, that obviously fits in the HDMI slot, it also came with the standard AV to component cable and an seperate audio adapter that fits in the AV slot which has audio out via left and right phono cables and an optical out. See : http://www.xbox.com/en-GB/hardware/x/xbox360hdmiavcable/default.htm

You can buy an HDMI cable separately and connect to your amp that way or get one of the AV adaptors that gives you a digital optical link, buy a digital optical cable and connect that to your amp instead.

“There has never been a better time to purchase an Xbox 360″ say Microsoft.
Except two weeks ago when the Arcade was £30 cheaper.

Pft who buys the arcade? I’ll tell you who. Hobos. Do you want to be a hobo? I didn’t think so.
You know who buys the Elite? Batman. Sony haven’t even got Spiderman on their side any more (for reference, while Spiderman would seem to have the advantage in a confrontation with his spider sense and super human strength and reactions, Batman is prepared for anything. You know why? HE’S FUCKING BATMAN, THAT’S WHY!), so you gotta side with the super hero console. It’s really a simple question, would you rather be Batman or a hobo?

Thats a good price. I was already thinking of getting one for a few certain games. Now thinking about it even more. Not sure i can afford it still though. Contemplating changing my ps3 to slim still too though, i dont wanna upgrade the hdd and im nearly out of space.
