For anyone who’s interested, here’s the drivel-ful reply from BBC Watchdog:

We recognise you’re unhappy with ‘Watchdog’’s new look but no long-running programme can afford to stand still. The format changes are among the most radical in the programme’s 29 year history but ‘Watchdog’ is still tackling exactly the issues it always has and achieving the same results. Stories in the first two programmes instantly led to a change of policy at two national health club chains, as well as a reduction in the levels of salt in many high street foods.

The change of time and longer duration creates a great opportunity not just to try new things, but to welcome a wider range of viewers who perhaps weren’t able to catch the series in its previous slot.

‘Watchdog’ has a unique relationship with its viewers, so we’re particularly keen to continue to receive feedback as the new run develops. Meanwhile we can reassure you that the ambition of the show remains the same: robust investigative journalism on behalf of the audience who have brought the stories to us, in a bold and entertaining way.

Superb letter…sums everything up perfectly. It’s crazy how a (formally) respected programme like Watchdog can turn what appears to be a genuine problem into something so farcical that you can’t take anything about it seriously!

I think the overall point here is that Sony need to recognise the console’s issues and get them sorted, at least reassuring the 60GB owners that they’ll get a FREE replacement, and that the BBC Watchdog team should really get more data before producing a report like this in the future.

Great Letter and I fully agree. I watched Watchdog tonight to see what all the fuss was about,
and
I was horrified. Im really please you spoke out about it and getting the Telegraph quoting the SixthAxis website editor is testament to what a great and valid letter you wrote. Pat yourself on the back.
Also even if there were the quoted 12500 faulty units in a base of 2.5mil it is only 0.5% which is nothing compared to the failure rate of the Xbox which Ian “comedian” Lee didn’t seem fit to mention, for comparison or to put it into context.

Great article.The BBC always seems to be acting to further hidden agendas.My launch day 60gig had the ylod but only after 2 years of near constant use.I don’t recall watchdog saying anything about the unpresidented scandal that was the rrod.It doesn’t matter if you are talking about war,torture or games consoles the BBC has a very obvious pro-yank bias.And we never did find out what that secret game was.

Come on now ColossalBlue, lets not be too quick to judge the poor old Beeb. If they didn’t spend your license fee on this rancid tosh the Government would have to raise your taxes anyway. The BBC spends that millions of pounds to keep ‘alternative’ comedians, ex local radio DJ’s, an entire generation of Media Studies graduates, ‘wacky’ regional kids presenters and against all laws of God, Nature, Music and general humanity, Joe Whiley, in steady work. How much would it cost to put all these people on the rock n roll? You shouldn’t be angry, you should be proud. You are helping a huge number of people who can’t help themselves. You are a regular humanitarian. These people can’t discuss post modernism and talk about how deliciously ironic it is to now like Gordon Brown while they are welding a ship. Personally, I blame Bono.

Researchers are expensive because they have to work and investigate and stuff. One student, five minutes on wikipedia, one dodgy comic, two pints of cider and black, one Monty Python album (album? How old am I?) on the Ipod. Dink dank doo programme made. That’ll be forty grand please. This is obviously why they can’t afford any decent football.
