Another week, another Sony secret leaks out. A rather dodgy picture of a Gamestop database (a retail chain in Sweden) lists no less than four 250 gig PS3 bundles. Swedish PS3s will come with either Uncharted 2, Ratchet & Clank: A Crack In Time, Need For Speed: Shift or FIFA 10. These bundles differ from previous leaks that implied that Gran Turismo or Assasins Creed 2 would be the game of choice.
The information also contradicts the recent news on the MCV website that a ‘Movie” PS3 bundle would arrive, including Eyetoy and Play.Tv
So which of these rumours is correct? Quite possibly all of them. It sounds like Sony are tailoring packages to each region. MCV is pretty reliable so it may be the UK gets the Play.TV bundle, France gets Gran Turismo, Sweden gets Uncharted and so on. If you were planning to upgrade to Slim, you may like to hang on a few more weeks..

Shame as it could slow down the sales momentum they’ve built up whilst people choose to wait and see.

This is the same issue I have now with games from the PSN store..
I burned my money on several games on PSN thursday just to see them (a few) weeks later for half that price..
But I was waiting to buy the slim for 2 reasons, none of them the bigger HDD because you can change it to any other size you want or have money for.
I was waiting so see if there were (hardware) problems and if there where none I was waiting for a bundle so.. my waiting payed of for the bundle part

its only been 19 days since launch, hardly time to see if hardware issues will affect the new model!

It’ll take a year or more for heat issues to have a noticible effect on failure rates I’m afraid

If the 4,499 is the price (Swedish krona), then current exchange rates mean £400. Ouch!

Well that’s the prices you pay in Scandinavia, if you buy in a Gamestop that is. 4500 SEK / 300 DKR / 400£ seems right, as the Slim costs 2700 DKR / 3670 SEK / 3257£
The only reason to use Gamestop, would because of some sweet exchange deals.

It’s not useful for anything, eg. take a game like trine, it’s a few cents away from being double price in Denmark, comparing to the US…

I’ll stick with my big mama of a PS3, the Slims just look like they came out of an overpriced McDonalds happy meal – . -;;

A retail chain in Sweden, you say? I’d guess it’s more of a retail chain in the Nordic countries, as the PSN voucher says NOK (Norwegian Krone).

Yeah does see, quite… odd I guess.
The hard drive already in the Slim will be big enough for most people anyway though.

I’m guessing that’s for the slim, because thats pretty much the same price in Denmark, a Slim goes for 2400 DRK, which is around 2900 NOK.

Why the need its best to just come out with a 1TB PS3 instead or else just upgrade the hard drive

Well it’s not possible at the moment to do a 1tb, a 640GB would be possible, as it’s the largest you can get in 2,5″ sata.

Actually I was speaking to somebody from America who informed me had just fitted a 1TB HDD in his PS3.
Perhaps he’s a liar.

I would call him a liar. There simply isn’t a 1tb small and thin enough to fit the PS3. It would require some pretty impressive modding or totally new base, and a sata extension.

Yeah they’re lying, you can’t do it. Physically can’t fit any more on at this stage.

Oh although I guess you could use some really dodgy cabling and run a standard disk externally? Would be a bit of a bodge though, but SATA are the same at both ends and you should be able to get a power connector. Not something I’d try though. I’m also not familliar with the PS3’s connection so it may not be possible to fit cabling in the space.

oooooh, only one I’d really be interested in is the Uncharted 2 bundle but I doubt I’ll be getting any of them… that is unless my faithful 60Gb decides to stop working before then (hopefully not).

I’ll be sticking with by trusty 60gb until it dies, as it suits me fine at the moment. However, it looks like there are some good bundle deals coming up though for anyone looking to upgrade.
