Rather than create DLC Capcom have decided to produce a disc based update to the critically acclaimed Super Street Fighter. At first that may sound like a cruel move for those of you who already own the game but, before you start hurling fireballs in disgust, here is the good news: It is going to be a budget title. For your less-than-expected hard earned cash you will get eight new fighters, including T-Hawk and Juri pictured below, and a raft of smaller enhancements such as the rebalancing of some fighters. Owners of classic Street Fighter IV will also get a ‘mystery surprise’ if they purchase the update. If Capcom had released the fighters as DLC then you would of expected to pay at least £3.00 per fighter so getting all eight new characters for £20-25 does appear to be good value for money. Super Street Fighter IV will be released on Xbox and PS3 in spring 2010.

  1. Yay buying this :) Or maybe I should hold out for championship edition.

  2. Glad I didn’t buy the non “Super” version!! ;)

  3. Does it come with the Street Fight IV game on it as well or is it just the new content?

    • It’s the orginal SFIV plus 8 new characters, plus extra bobbins.

      • I hear the gameplay is a little different though.

  4. Good price, but should I wait for Super-Duper StreetFighter IV EX Turbo Plus Alpha Special Championship Edition

    • Assuming they follow SFII it’ll be Super Street Fighter IV Turbo as the final version (before a HD Remix in 20 years or so).

      • Fook HD… I want the 3D remix

      • Super Street Fighter IV Turbo 3DHD Remix Fourth Mix. Why Fourth Mix you ask? I predict that it’ll have merged with DDR by this point.

  5. This is cool and good value as stated, deejay is also confirmed but the final list is still in progress I hear. Also all characters are getting new ultras!!!!

  6. This is good news as hopefully the normal version will drop in price when this is released so I can pick it up for a low price. :)

    • Indeed. Buying SF4 at full price now would be a bad idea, but on the other hand I’d like to play SF4 before next spring.

    • Why would you get the original AFTER Super comes out? Super is already going to be low priced, and it has more content in the game. Everyone is going to move onto the new one anyway. I’m not understanding.

      • What if you’ve played SFIV butdon’t own it, but find that, personally, the balance or gameplay is just better?

  7. Sorry Tuffcub, but “you would OF expected to pay”…?
    Tsk tsk.

  8. I’ll probably buy this if it has the full game as well as all the new content…. does it?

    Although I prefer Tekken.

  9. Never been a big fighter person, but a good price on this “extended version” could very well be my ticket in to SF :P

  10. Nice I just desperately traded SFIV for some game that totally sucked.
Thank jesus this is a budget title, time to bust out some hadukens in Spring 2010!! along with SOME BLAZBLUE!! and kamehamehas

  11. goddamnit, why didn’t they just offer the new content as a combined patch/DLC download? I hate it when game developers do this!!

    • Because it’s the whole game, with extra content, at a fair price? You’d probably pay this much (or more) on DLC as the article notes.

      • well…yeh, but….you see….ok ill go now

at the very least, will trophy and save data carry over? Like in RE5 Alternative Edition?

      • No idea, I don’t know if they’ve said. I’d hope so, but it depends how much they’ve changed. Hopefully locked chars from SFIV will be unlocked by default or something like that.

    • I don’t think it’s very often that “developers do this” to begin with, as Street Fighter historically has multiple iterations anyway. They also said that the rebalancing of characters and netcode would not work with playing against players who own different copies of the game, so this was the only way they could do it.

  12. I wonder if Street Fighter IV DLC (the costumes) will carry over…
Either way, I’ll be buying this. I love me some Street Fighter, and I did not shell out on the Tournament Edition FightStick (OR consider getting one of the new sticks to have 2 available…) for nothing!

    • It has already been announced that SSFIV Online is not compatible with SFIV Online, so my guess is costumes won’t go over either, but I could be wrong lol.

I would love to see SFIV Black Belt Edition (anyone agree? If they remember the awesomeness of Black Belt edition of SF2 lol) Definitely liking the good job they did on the 2D Sprite conversion to 3D for T-Hawk, hasn’t lost anything there at all – I wonder if DeeJay will be in it as well – or maybe even Charlie/Nash – although I know he was more Alpha orientated anyway – for anyone who knows the timelines to SFness lol

      • Not being compatible with each other has to do with the netcode and character balancing. I don’t see how the costumes have anything to do with that.

  13. With the disc you won’t have to spend ages downloading again if you get the YLOD.

    • I doubt the ISO is that large to being with. It’s just a fighting game. But why ‘ages?’

  14. Was thinking this was the price just for the extra characters at first but seeing as it includes the full game, then that is a great. Should boost a few more sales for them for what i would say is not relatively a huge amount of work. Tempts me to play my copy again…
