This week is a bit unusual. Illness struck down one half of Second Nature with some weird bug (I assume Kris meant a virus rather than a beetle). We didn’t want to find out what would happen if we didn’t release a show this week, but we also couldn’t do one of full length. Welcome in Second Nature mini; episode 22 is shorter than normal for the primary reason that Kris’ voice was giving out and he was a few seconds away from passing out on his bed. We do cover some Batman: Arkham Asylum, Flashpoint and Critter Crunch, but a distinct lack of energy drink references or cake review shows how ill Kris was. So we hope you can make do with a shorter Second Nature for now.

To pick up this smaller than normal file, either visit iTunes, the wonders of RSS or just download the MP3 via Second Nature. The bandwidth gremlins were coughing and moaning – just like Kris – due to the unusually high number of downloads for recent shows which we really appreciate.

We do however always want to improve, so please email us at secondnaturepodcast [at] gmail [dot] com, rather than leave nasty comments on iTunes. However, if you want to provide positive or negative feedback on iTunes, make sure to get your entire family to do it as well.

Please note that all comments are the opinion of the individual author and not TheSixthAxis.

  1. Get well soon :D

  2. I’ve just caught a bad cold which I think is being spread round and I had to take a couple of days off school so I might know a little bit how you feel. Get well soon so we can hear more of your energy drinks and frangepans. :D

    • Cheers man. As you can probably tell by my state during the podcast I took yesterday off work. Normal service will be resumed soon, I’ve got this thing mostly beat now.

      • I took half of my day off yesterday but had to go in the morning for an exam but when straight home after. I couldn’t be arsed with it.

  3. Another one, yay :D

I will listen to it the second I get a chance.

  4. Bring back the cake reviews!

    • Cake will be back when next episode comes out, guaranteed. I’ll make sure of it.

  5. Just finished listening to it. Very informative this time round. Some funny bits but I love the randomness of cake reviews and energy drink reviews. Still good but I can understand why you left ‘em out because Kris sounded like crap.

    • Yeah I was not feeling good. I kept trailing off when I was talking about Batman.

  6. Just starting now. Could I ask a favour…. is there a chance you could mention “Kris is Raen”, etc in the article as I never, EVER remember. *hangs head in shame*

    • No it’s ok, we forgot to mention it this week. Sickness made this a weird one.

      • Cheers, matey. Much appreciated. No consolation but illness has struck here. In my sixth day of the most horrendous cold/cough. Bloody children pass this stuff around school then try to kill all parents (and legal guardians) by coughing incessantly. *shakes fist*

      • Just going to keep on chatting here. You guys are discussing the jump mechanic. As weird as it feels I totally agree. Is there ever a need to jump (in a real world situation) where we end up hopping around the battlefield like a bunny on special bouncy drugs. However, jump atop boxes, air-con units, low walls, etc… totally understand. Is there a way around this? Context sensitive jumping?

      • On illness: I think I caught it off the freshers I had to train for the student radio station I’m still involved in, even though I graduated. Bastards.

On jumping: The obvious solution would be something like the free running in Assassin’s Creed. I don’t think you can ever choose to jump in that game, but you character jumps as part of natural movement. The other solution is a climb mechanic which would work for getting on top of things, but would fail if you needed to jump across gaps etc…

  7. What’s the 4 player co-op you guys are discussing? (crap single player but great in co-op). Flashpoint?

    • Yes I think so :)

      • You mentioned Plants Vs Zombies! YES!!!! The finest (and most surprising) tower defence type game ever. Could this even make it to the PS3? The controls are perfect on mouse (for the PC).

      • We discuss it at length on 21 or 20 (21 I think).

      • Will go listen again. Must have missed it. Cheers, Raen.

      • Apologies, just looked back through show notes and it’s 20, not 21.

  8. How long is it then?

Will hopefully get to listen to it tonight… but… Uncharted 2!

    • About 33 minutes I believe.

  9. Liked the Flashpoint bit, its my fav game atm.
    Hope you get better Kris.

  10. I’ll download this later. Keep ‘em coming guys!!
