Back in August practically the whole world cheered when the news broke that the two God Of War PS2 classics were being released for the PS3, in the form of the God Of War Collection. It was shortly after this when the cheers died down that we realised only the US would be receiving the Kratos shaped awesomeness in 2009, as Sony Europe said “We are currently looking into options to bring God of War I and II to SCEE consumers on PS3; however it will not be possible to release the games this calendar year. We will provide further information in due course.”
Well US customers are also about to have the smile wiped from their faces with news of a delay to the expected US release date, although the smile should soon return when they realise the delay is only a week, this news comes from an Amazon.com email:
Hello from Amazon.com.
We have received new release date information related to your pre-ordered video game in the order you placed on XXX 2009 (Order# XXXX). The release date for the video game listed below has been changed by the publisher, and we want to provide you with a new delivery estimate based on the new release date:
“God of War: Collection”
Release date: November 17 2009
Although the delay could be due to a variety of reasons which escape me for the moment as I am writing this at 3am wide awake through jet-lag, but if I was forced to place a bet I would say it was because it makes sense not to release a title at the same time as Infinity Ward’s behemoth. This disappoints me as I along with the vast majority of gamers will not be buying MW2 and it would be nice if something else was hitting the shelves that week, even though as an EU customer I’m supposed wait until some undefined time in 2010 (hopefully) to pick this up.

I wouldn’t have bought on launch anyway, but this a blow, espicially with everybody’s fear of Modern Warfare.

Ok heres a really stupid question. Will I be able to purchase the GOW collection from the US and will it work ok on my PS3?

Depends on your tv, your ps3 will play NTSC but if you have a old tv…
The only thing you will see is the game in black and white when you have a old tv,
all the new ones have no problem with it. (If I was informed well it has to to with the 720 dp thingy)

Thats right, most TVs are running on the SD, HD and Full HD signals these days. Sony have said that the game has been scaled to HD so it wont be an issue.

Just to inform you, the difference between PAL and NTSC is the refreshment rate PAL=50hertz NTSC=60hertz, when you have a 100hertz TV this won’t be a problem.

Two things..
“as I along with the vast majority of gamers will not be buying MW2″. Vast majority of gamers? Really? I’d be willing to bet MW2 will sell more than most, if not all other titles this festive period. Yeah Activision’s antics leave a bitter taste in our mouths but let’s not kid ourselves here, most folks will be buying the game because despite the publishers being a bunch of deleted expletives, the game is awesome.
Secondly, again with the “no GoW collection for Europe
” nonsense. Said this in a previous discussion, in this day and age is that accurate? With the ability and ease of importing via the net, the game is hardly difficult to find is it? Saw some people react the same when I recommended the brilliantly awesome Demon’s Souls earlier this year. Still only know around six people who have played the game, despite it being one of the top two titles available on the system.

There’s about 30m+ 360’s sold and about 25m PS3’s sold, MW2 will no doubt end up being one of the best selling games of all time racking up 4-10m+ sales therefore the vast majority of gamers will not be purchasing it.
And of course God Of War is available by importing, or let someone else do the importing and get it from Games Basement.

Cynic in me wonders how many of those 55m consoles are still working and therefor actually count
You also left out PC gamers. We count too! *wags finger*

I dont want to bash TSA’s partners or anything, but Games Basement do seem a little expensive.. They’re doing GOW1&2 for £39.99, whereas Movietyme are doing it for £26.99. Thats quite a difference. Doesnt seem to be just that either, Demons Souls is nearly £10 more from them.. While Im sure its a great site, they could do with lowering their prices a bit because they’re not very competitive atm.

@Severn2j – they’re new though, so don’t have the purchasing power yet. Hopefully soon they’ll have capital to buy in bigger bulk and thus sell for cheaper. Besides, Movietyme will be shipping from the US for both titles, right, whereas Games Basement have the stock here in the UK, I think.

They need the customer base first though. The more people buy from them, the cheaper they can buy the games and pass the savings on to their customers. Vicious circle I know, and a difficult time to be asking folks to pay a bit more for long term benefits, but I certainly understand what they are trying to do.

I wont be buying MW2, purely because of Activisions ‘antics’ and Im sure Im not the only one.. I’d like to think sales of the game will be hurt by it, but that maybe wishful thinking, however I have yet to see any evidence that the game will be ‘awesome’.. If ever a game traded on its pedigree, its this one.
Oh, I have Demon’s Souls too and that actually is awesome..
Like you said, importing is very easy nowadays, so regional releases arent too much of a problem these days, apart from the language barriers of course (although, not in this case). I just hope they dont return to the bad old days of region coding..

I’m not in a rush to get MW2 either, certainly not until it comes down in price a fair bit!

I would say a significant portion will buy it. The thing is the only gamers who really know about Activision’s antics are those who frequent the web which is still the vast minority of gamers overall. It won’t have a huge effect on sales in my opinion.
And while it’s available for importing it’s a) a bit of a pain (ok not really, but some people will see it as such), b) the vast majority of gamers in Europe probably won’t even know that the title exists as they’ll be no advertising and c) it’s more the principle of the thing.

CC’s point stands though, even if MW2 is the fastest selling game to date, it still won’t be bought by more than 50% of gamers worldwide, therefore the ‘majority’ of gamers won’t be buying it.
I certainly aren’t too fussed about picking it up at launch. I’ve got Uncharted 2 for roller-coaster ride thrills on rails and the MAG beta for tactical-ish online FPS play. I can afford to wait for the price to come down.

MW2 is already (just in preorders) going to be the biggest media release in the world. it tops any movie, music or game. trust me, the majority of gamers are buying this

Well the two MP maps we’ve played via LAN are brilliant, a definite improvement with design and layout the standouts. Afghan is built for close quarters combat with snipers and the like rendered fairly useless while Highrise is the opposite with plenty of nooks and elevated spots for snipers to occupy and pick off those below. The weapons feel meaty and properly weighted, lacking no punching power either which is refreshing after spending time playing Uncharted 2. Both kill and death streaks work, with the death streaks especially a nice addition to stop folks dominating games too much. Multiplayer (as expected) really is special.

Kratos isn’t scared of anyone, including Chuck Norris.
I’m not buying until the new year probably but MW2 will sell loads imo. I can see it selling more on the 360 though so maybe Sony are being a bit too cautious. God of War collection also has the added punch of GoW 3 demo. They would have been fine but I suppose if a week means more profit then they are sure to do it.

No way, Brucie kicked his arse in Way Of The Dragon. Chuck’s aerodynamics were too slow which was probably caused by the hairy back he was sporting

Dear fellow europeans don’t worry about not being able to purchase the GoW collection in europe this year, just order it from the states and all is well people and it’s cheaper. I allready placed my order in last month so I’ll be playing the collection in a month or so. For those who don’t know the ps 3 is region free

not if you have a old tv, it must do 720dp,
or else the only thing you will see is GOW in
black and white instead of full colour :p

True also check the details before purchasing from the States. Don’t know if Chuck Norris is afraid of Kratos. Maybe he knows there’s something out there waiting for us, and it ain’t no man. 0o (Scene from Predator – Poncho and Dutch)

The phrase “self-fulfilling prophecy” is starting to come to mind.
I think this might actually be a move on Sony’s part. I don’t think their issue is whether or not it will sell against MW2, I think they don’t want anything competing against the PS3 version of MW2. If MW2 debuts that week and this takes a chunk out of PS3 MW2 sales, then it may look poor to future multiplat publishers. In a sense giving validity to the PS3 as an afterthought mentality that has harmed some titles. If the ratio of the PS3:Xbox 360 sales for MW2 look pretty similar to the ratio of consoles in the wild, it provides a better signal that PS3 owners buy just as many multiplat titles as 360 owners.

You know what, they’re damn right to be ’scared’ of it. The vast majority of gamers will be picking it up, they always do with COD. Because although I hate WaW with a passion, MW was one of the best games this generation so fair play to Infinity Ward.
Doesnt mean I’d like to see every game run away scared, but theyve sure got the right too, it’ll dominate this Christmas. Thats why I like Uncharted even more, it wasnt scared
Oh and it is a port really, with Trophy supported added in. They’ll have trouble selling loads as it is.
