Hi-Def movie goodness winging its way to the 360?

You’ve gotta like a guy whose enthusiastic and none come more enthusiastic than Microsoft’s Steve Ballmer, he’s been talking to Gizmodo about lots of things surrounding the Xbox 360 most of it seemed to be the usual corporate message like how Natal will be game changing etc… but what he actually let slip may prove more interesting. When asked about adding Blu-ray to the 360 he said “Well I don’t know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you’ll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories.”

Gizmodo followed this up to check if Ballmer (in all his enthusiasm) had ‘misspoken’ and their reply was “Our immediate solution for Blu-ray-quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall with Zune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we’re not ready to comment.” So it does appear that at some point in the future 360 owners will be able head down the well trodden path of upgrading their movie collection to yet another format.
