Second Nature Experiments: Part 1 and 2

Fail. Fail. Fail. Success?

Well this didn’t quite go as planned. We decided to take a normal podcast and turn it on it’s head by playing a couple of games of FIFA whilst doing the normal show; making it part show, part commentary and part review. However, certain things happened and changed certain plans. Have a listen to find out what though.

Basically, tell us if it’s crap. It was just something we were testing out to see how it went and ultimately not the best game was chosen. If there’s something along these lines that you’d be interested to see how it might turn out, or just want us to make fools of ourselves don’t hesitate to let us know; especially with the latter. So go ahead and download it by visiting iTunes, using the magic of RSS or grab the MP3 from Second Nature.

  1. Only just started listening to it but the beginning is hilarious.

    • Just finished listen and I think it’s good but I agree about the choice of game. But the outbursts of ‘Just been shot in the face’ were quite funny.

  2. I liked it. Agreed about the game , but whichever game you choose, a bit more description would be cool.

Good idea though, will make a good addition :D

  3. I liked it, but I still feel that normal podcasts are better, since you can think and aren’t distracted ;) I thought you were supposed to be reviewing the Horde mode while playing it? I guess you must have forgot hehe

  4. just started downloading. i’ll listen to it on the train to glasgow on monday :)

  5. To be honest, I thought that it was better, because usually i find my self getting bored at some parts of the earlier podcasts. It just gave you more to listen to in a way, it might have just been the subjects mind. :D

  6. My opinion as oppose to fact: Didn’t enjoy it as much. The MGS phonecall was very funny but the constant distraction of Gears simply didn’t work well. Personally, I’d love to see you do two podcasts a week. A Snatch style cast where you go through the usual stories (don’t forget Monster Energy Drink mentions ;) ) but maybe replace this “Experiment” with a more in-depth discussion on gaming in general. The chat about the reviews felt like it was going somewhere (“reviews are opinions”, etc).

    To summarise:
    1. Popcorn-style show (which I feel like you have nailed on a weekly basis).
    2. More in-depth look at far more influential and industry-reaching topics. The latter format might be a shorter show but could run until it feels like it’s been discussed without flang-flinging. :D

    • I have considered two shows a week. Davs might stab me in the face though, and we’d have less to talk about in terms of what we’d been playing as it’d take up (roughly) four of my evenings a week with recording and editing.

      • The current podcasts are very strong… but throughout the year there’s probably 20 or so “moments” where a special might be justified. Like an Uncharted Special, or an E3 special, etc. Where you concentrate on just one to two items for the duration of a 30 minute show (for example). That would be really good, from my point of view. A really meaty game/topic/etc, to sink ones teeth into.

  7. Next week you should do this but play Uncharted 2. That would be entertaining.

    • Uncharted 2 co-op?

      Awesome.

      • You can’t do local co-op :(

  8. I’ll listen to this tonight guys, hopefully as good (or better) than usual.

  9. I’m too drunk to work out what has been said here, I’ll have a look again tmrw, and try and work out what you want me to do, or listen to.

  10. Wow I actually enjoyed it!

  11. I listened to it today.

Thought it was a great twist and a great idea, however it wasn’t executed as well as it could have been.
This was due to you keep forgetting about what you were saying due to the game distracting you, and I felt like the conversation was going somewhere… but just not reaching ‘there’.

Anyway, still loved the banter and the content.
Nothing like a bit of constructive criticism, eh?

    • That’s pretty much how I felt. As much fun as the guys were having it was ultimately a distraction from some good topics.

    • Thanks for the honesty :) I think it’s mostly because of the game, it would have been a very different game if FIFA wasn’t busted. We may have a work around for FIFA now, so we might be retrying it with a less intense game.

      • I’ll look forward to that then, cause I know FIFA will be less of a distraction and possibly funnier.

  12. The main issue, as mentioned above, was the fact that conversation didn’t flow because you were trying to talk and play at the same time.
Maybe in future, if you want to do some sort of commentary, instead of both of you playing, you ‘pass the pad’, so one of you plays while the other talks?

  13. Downloading now, so I’ll give it a listen tomorrow morning. Sounds interesting!!
