More bandwidth scarfed up! Where is all the extra space going to come from? I can it’s important for people like Sony to test the waters but from a user POV with my bandwidth regularly bouncing from .5 to 5. I can imagine it being a pretty frustrating affair unless you’re on a 20MB cable line.

Looking forward to trying this service out, depending on the pricing of course!! I can see me using the rental part the most though, mainly impulse decisions when I get home at night and there’s nothing I fancy watching no TV!!

Yeah, I had a feeling your estimate Gamoc of 2gb was a little optimistic. I heard Blu-Ray films, as a file, are around 12-15GB. That’s far too much for me, with my poor and limited internet anyway. That’s why I stick to free movie download sites, as you get the films in passable quality at around 500mb.

if it’s going to be like the US store you can copy to a PSP or back up the video to an external HDD. but it’s only a back up, you can’t play from an external HDD, it needs to be on your ps3 to play. Also the videos get coded to your ps3 HDD, not your account, so if you format or change your ps3 HDD the videos no longer work and the back up data becomes worthless.

Subscription TV with on-demand movies would be cheaper than doing a handful of rentals a month though, and the quality is better, and you’re not at the hands of the internet gods.

This is excellent. I never buy DVDs of films because I’ll watch them maybe once or twice and never touch them again and they just take up shelf space. Now I can rent films straight to my PS3 in high quality and it’s probably cheaper than Blockbuster too!

I think this is a great idea and welcome it. I don’t know if I will use it much but may now and then. I’m with LoveFilm so I’ll stick with it coz then my gf gets to watch stuff too, but maybe when I have a night in by myself I might use it sometime for something she doesn’t wanna see.
