Eidos have released a new trailer for the Avalanche Studio’s 3rd person sandbox title, Just Cause 2. As we have seen before the action has moved to the paradise south-east Asian island of Panau with the aim of the game to overthrow a dictator by destabilising the country and generally causing as much mayhem as possible. The island location means the player will get to sample a huge variety of locations from a huge city to a jungle, and snow topped mountains to an idyllic beach. The “No Ordinary Mission” trailer shows off some of the new gameplay mechanics, which you’ll be able to try out for yourself when the game is released sometime in 2010, although they did say originally it would in 2008 and then again in 2009 so who really knows for sure?

Now /that/ was a trailer!
Awesome. I loved the first one from a graphics pov but it was slightly lacking in gameplay IMO. Free-falling in JC1 on 360 from the highest point possible was the most relaxing thing ever. This one looks a bit more manic!

Was that actually in game footage?

In the main, I’m not sure about the distant explosions, perhaps the camera angle changes for certain set pieces, but all the helicopter stuff is gameplay and the rest of it, be honest though a lot of the textures are lacking detail, a bit like PROTOTYPE I suppose.

A lot of the acrobatics reminded me of prototype as well, the kind of air dash type thing and the helicpoter hijacking

well, they have had this scheduled to be released for some time now. – way before that of Prototype, so it is unlikely they may have taken any of their features into making Just Cause 2. Their was, if you had played the original Just Cause, a lot of acrobatics invlolved in stealing vehicles or jacking them. It was one of the selling points of the game, along with the sand-box genre it is.

To be honest I wasn’t really judging it texture-wise since that is a YouTube clip and textures usually look worse. It was more about the camera and the movement.

@Stingraz
Yeah course, as mentioned in the OP it could have come out in ’08.
Obviously being an open world game the graphics usually have a couple lower pieces of resolution somewhere down the line, so its nothing against this title, I just thought some of the buildings and the sides of the bridge towers was a completely flat piece of colour with practically no detail whatsoever, but like I say its more down to the sheer scale of the genre, than it is anything else.

yep, it was one of the major issues they have had to correct – the graphics of say the view of buildings from in the air. However from reading the latest Play magazine – who had a very large detailed preview of it – told that the graphics to be superb, even better in fact when you were parachuting down! It’s kind of one of those games that you need to see actual in-game shots to see the actual detail of the graphics. Like in games before, there can be stunning images before release, which are computer enhanced, then the game a flop, so it boils down to when it comes out, or a demo. Also, look on the justcause2.com website for some pics and a nice screensaver and wallpaper. (but don’t get too much info as i’m writing a guest article on it!)

It seems a tad to … over the edge for my taste, guess it’s a rental here.

Hi, great video. I was wondering, as i have for some time now, can i write a guest piece. I have been wanting to for a while now, but not got the chance to ask – how? i have no clue how, do you ask? e-mail it? huh? i’d like to do one on this game, i’ve been gathering info for quite a while now, and following this i think it is time for me to at least try. so, could someone or a moderator etc tell me how i can write one (if at all allowed) ? thanks.

I’d love to see a guest piece by you on this game. The guest written articles are in my opinion one of the greatest features of TSA. You sould definetly go for it – I’d contact Peter Chapman, the site editor, directly via email (peter[at]thesixthaxis[dot]com).

Yup, exactly like wedehog said (and just got some points for being so helpful). Just email it to me after you’ve got it as close to perfect as you can. I try not to edit and cut them about too much because I think the guest pieces should retain the character of ther person that wrote them but if the spelling and grammer is awful I will obviously correct it, or send it back and ask you to correct it!
I’ll look forward to getting your mail, I’ve been keeping an eye on this title myself.

ok, thanks. i’ll try to have it sent my next weekend. I’m on holiday in Egypt now at the moment and am on friends i-phone. Not back til next weekend, but it’ll be in your mail definately next sunday. Do i just send it as a normal e-mail , or is there a specific layout i should follow? i’ve got several pictures collected, and probably another video for this as well.

Sticking enemies to objects looks like aloft of fun.
Can you stick multiple things together? I’m imagining sticking loads of people to a giant explosive and then sticking that to a plane.
And does anyone know if you can fly planes?

yes, you can use everything that is in the game. from boats to planes. Also, no you can only grapple together TWO things – still fun though!
