Agreed. The main reason my friends who have 360’s (I have a PS3) consider Xbox superior is because they can silence out the little ****s who scream down the mic when playing Call of Duty, but they can still speak to their mates who are on the same game with them (along with people on other games of course).
If Microsoft do this there will be some major uproar and annoyance guarenteed.

This has got to be the worst thing that has ever been created, the whole point of Party Chat is to get away from all those childish 10 year olds that have high pitched voice and shout down the mic “Your Momma”, I can’t believe they would do this… this has to be fake.

I mean sure its fine if you are all playing the same game.

But what if say, my friend was playing Forza and I wanted to chat with him?
Isn’t that the main feature of Part/Cross Game Chat?
This really isn’t a good choice… defeats the purpose.

Oh dear, This was one of the main reasons I preordered MW2 for the 360. Unless Infinity Ward create a way to further break down the ingame chat, private conversations with friends will be open for everyone to hear.

I think that if/when PS3 gets cross-game chat, it will be banned in certain games. This could easily be abused in say clan matches where players just spectate to report positions of one team to another.

Incidentally, the issue is not the cross game chat, but the fact you can still watch all the action when you are dead…and thus cheat. Simple fix for that is the classic Counter-Strike solution of fixing the perspective to that of your team only upon death, rather than allowing open viewing to any user or camera available. Or, better yet, make a feature of it – you die, cutscene kicks in until you respawn etc or a mini game…lots of possibilities. Fact is other games on other platforms deal with this simply.

I can understand it as a ‘ranked game’ essential, but I think the option to allow party chat should still be there for custom games.

In e.g. Chromehounds, the in-game chat system is part of the game mechanic as you can only talk to teammates when they are in range of radio. There are ways of extended your range of communication, e.g. by controlling radio towers or using special equipment, and you can also interfere with your enemy’s communication. If, however, everyone is using party chat none of this matters.

mind you it’ll be another one of those “the devs have to support it” things anyway so it’s likely no games will support it for at least six months.

I always thought thatif PS got cross game/ party/ whatever chat then there could be potential for cheating in games like KZ in clan games you could have people telling you where the enemy is without being part of the match.

I understand why some gameswill need to be blocked but it will be by far a minority of the market….most likely games with clan systems in place.
