I have PES and Fifa but it seems to me that fifa wins I wish I didn’t bought PES aw well here goes for the Champions League, Master League and be a Legend lol.

I spent all last year avoiding what everyone had been saying. “FIFA is better than PES. It has surpassed it”. I went on blinkered, believing these to be only the words of FIFA fanboys (and lets face it for so many years PES was better than FIFA but they could never admit it. “Ooooh but it’s not got the licenses…” “Yeah? At least it plays like a real football game should!”). But I kept faith that PES would come good.

Alas it did not. The turning point came when, in a house of 6 football/PS3/PES mad 20-somethings, PES hadn’t been played in 3 months! I remember playing previous versions of PES everyday, right up until the release date of the next game. But PES09 was rubbish. The fun had been sucked out of it. Awful goalkeepers, shooting at the near post and scoring everytime, Kaka and Ronaldo being un-dispossesible and bloody computer controlled slide tackles! ARGH!

Anyway the point of this unnecessarily long comment is that we switched to FIFA this year and it’s fantastic. Be a Pro is so much fun and a hundred times better than the PES 09 one which was cripplingly boring. I wouldn’t say I’m officially a FIFA boy now, but what I will say is that Konami will have to do a lot to win people like me (and there will be a lot of us) back.

Oh and one thing I will say about FIFA, it’s impossible to beat players. Especially human ones. I mean I know it’s not often someone skins 4 or 5 players but there are a lot of times when C Ron or Arshavin can beat a solitary full back!

God…the hours I spent on PES 5 on my PSP.

Back then, PES was CLEARLY better. Clearly.

Now, FIFA just completely owns PES.

It’s sad, but things change.

SONY have gone from the most successful console to the least successful, so we know that anything is possible this gen.

but did you play against the people on a red/yellow connection if so thats probably why, anyway it works perfectly for me so its probably upto the isps like cc_star said

Good review and good to see it get a decent score. I’ve always played the PES games, and enjoy the Master League mode the most, so it’s good to see that part has been improved.

Also meant to mention the commentary, which lasted almost an hour before it got turned off.
A feature I have always wanted is a create your own commentary option. You could have a list of pre set phrases that can be replaced with ones of your own via mic or mp3, this could also apply to player names. I realise it would be hard to do properly but it couldnt be any worse than the in game commentary.

Good review Tom, I agree with the score too. I dont play PES online anyway as none of my mates ever buy it so that isnt much of an issue for me.

I am currently playing through the Become a Leg-end mode (which my mate always calls golden man mode) and really enjoying it, I think it has been improved slightly since PES 09.

I do think the 360 dribbling is better and I have really started to notice it now but it took a while to get used to it.

I am so used to PES that I just cant play FIFA, it feels horrible to me and I cant put my finger on why so I will stick to PES this year.

Bandwidth shouldn’t be too much an issue, anything over 1.5mbps is more than capable of transmitting the minuscule amounts of data needed for online gaming.

Your ping, and your ISPs traffic prioritisation/shaping/throttling are far more relevant to lag (or delay) than your bandwidth.

Oh right, in the pros bit I did. I do feel that after you put a good few hours into it and get used to them, the controls are a step up over last years PES. They can feel clunky, especially I found after playing it after FIFA.

Playing on a 8mb connection, players where sometimes jumping all over the pitch and appearing elsewhere. Also, there was a distinct delay between when I pressed a button to the action actually happening, meaning it played completely different to offline.

I think that it is the best PES to date, it’s just that “the game that shall not be named” is further ahead and the improvements to PES this year should have been done a while back.

Good Review, not sure I agree about the controls though. Also, isn’t Be A Pro FIFA, and Be A Legend PES?
