Worth reading if only for the name Yannis Mallat.

Everyone loves Kratos, he has an incredibly chavvy tattoo and flounces about in a ripped skirt yet still manages to be totally bad ass. SCEA have revealed the details of the Collectors Edition God Of War III pack which will arrive in a “high-end sculpted replica of Pandora’s Box.” Delve in to Pandora’s Box (!) and you will receive a full-length movie documentary, a code that allows you to download the game’s soundtrack, the obligatory art book and special access to the ‘God of War Combat Arena’, whatever that may be.

This collectors edition has been confirmed for all territories, yes, even us Europeans!

Everyone loves Splinter Cell despite the lack of chavvy tattoos and David Beckham-esque apparel. I’m sure you have been bored to tears on the edge of your seats as fan boys claim the next episode of the game will be coming to PS3. It is not, and neither will be any other Splinter Cell games.

“Until further notice the franchise is staying on Xbox 360,” says the CEO of Ubisoft Montreal, Yannis Mallat. **Pause to allow senior TSA’ers to hum the Wackaday theme song** That seems pretty final then, no more Splinter Cell on PS3 or Nintendo.

“However,” continued Yannis, “I’m only the one making the games, you should talk to the people in Paris.”

Right, thanks for clearing that up. Definitely no PS3/Nintendo Splinter Cell unless Ubisoft Paris change their minds. Hope everyone is perfectly clear on that point and the rumours can stop, Splinter Cell is not coming to PS3 unless someone in Ubisoft thinks it is a good idea. That’s the final decision, until further notice.

  1. ‘Until further notice’

    That speaks worlds – that’s not a no, that’s a ‘not yet’.

  2. ‘Until further notice’ means let’s try and crank up PS3 interest in the game!! ;)

  3. I’d say ‘until further notice’ is just a back covering phrase, he doesn’t want to get in shit.

  4. 360 need some exclusives otherwise there isn’t much reason to own one over the other systems available. I liked splinter cell back in the day but a lot of games have combined elements of splinter cell to greater effect and there are a lot of game out there that are better in my opinion that is. Didnt the first splinter cell come out on xbox first then about a year later popped up on the PS2? Same thing this time just a different generation and platform. I think Ubi are trying to reboot the franchise and are going through the same process as before.

I have a sense that Ubi having been talking about this game for so long that by the time it comes out we will have all forgotten about it or not really be bothered about it. At best this will be a timed exclusive like other games, it will come to the PS3 in an all singing DLC including format, just about a year later!

Anyway Ubi stop talking about this pap and get us Beyond Good and Evil 2 out….

    • Left 4 Dead 2. Alan Wake. Halo Reach (ok – so it is “another” Halo title, but it sells). Crackdown 2. Splinter Cell Conviction (it’s a crime to have this exclusive “until further notice). There are plenty of existing exclusives and new ones out soon. I would say Sony need to stop losing these games as oppose to MS claiming more 3rd party exclusives. Halo, Fable, Crackdown, Gears I can understand – but come on; Splinter Cell, GTA4 DLC, Left 4 Dead are games ALL gamers should play! Hurray for Capcom and Dead Rising 2 showing that there is no reason to prevent other formats/gamers having a great game.

      • Left 4 Dead is more down to Gabe not wanting to support the PS3

      • Mass Effect 2 should really be multi-platform, seems a bit weird with EA publishing.

      • @Raen,
Even it is said that Mass Effect 2 would be exclusive, I think we shouldn’t be surprised if it did land on the PS3 at some point. There are just too many ‘mistakes’ made with it. I hope it will come to the PS3, both of them on one disc…

      • crackdown 2 and mass effect 2 are the only 360 games on the horizon that really interest me at the moment.
i can certainly live without yet another halo game.
they might as well call the next xbox the halo because that seems to be the main point of the console as far as ms are concerned.

    • I saw this game the other day. Trust me you won’t have forgotten about it, it looks superb. And it’s not that long till it’s out, end of February. They’ve only been talking about the new version of the game since E3 heavily, which is about the normal time for a game to be discussed.

I’d also ask what games have combined the elements of Splinter Cell well? Action-Stealth isn’t exactly an overflowing genre. There’s Splinter Cell and MGS and Hitman (are they still making Hitman?) and then I’m out really.

  5. I want to get my hands on Pandora’s box (ooer!) so bad…
Anyone else get the chance to try the GoWIII demo yet?
    It was awesome!

  6. Until the timed exclusivity deal runs out, anyone who believes this pap after the Bioshock, Fallout 3 etc. etc. shenanigans is dim witted fool

    • Aye. I think only 1st party and Valve will be the only 2 studios not to have their games on the PS3.

And maybe if Gabe would pull his head out of his arse, Valve games could see the PS3 as well.

  7. I’m sorry Tuffcub but when I joined this site, my news-finding ’skills’ were less than good and you reminded me of this on several occassions, which is why I take pleasure in going Ner ner ne ner ner – http://www.thesixthaxis.com/2009/10/30/god-of-war-3-ultimate-edition/

    LOL :D

Splinter Cell not on PS3 is a bit disappointing though.

  8. Loved the first 3 SC, but the fourth was very disappointing, so am not reall bothered if it does stay a 360 exclusive.

  9. i love a good collectors edition. Still reading this just makes me sad. i want to go home from this long weekend and play my dam demo!

  10. The news about the new Splinter Cell game not coming to PS3, must be the worst news on the gaming side this year for me. I’ve been loyal to SC so long, and this is the thanks?

    • It’s dreadful I know…

    • I would imagine it’s a combination of lower Sony sales and a bunch of money from Microsoft. Loyalty to fans is all well and good, but as a business getting a bunch of money is far better.

  11. not a big fan of the splinter cell games, haven’t been for a while, dunno why, just never enjoyed them that much.
but it’ll be a shame if we don’t see this on ps3 at some point, with some added features :)

  12. I used to play Splinter Cell over the years but I prefer Metal Gear Solid lol I have no reason why though. Hell I’m still going to pick up Conviction at some point anyway.

  13. Given that I can still remember reading stringent denials about Ninja Gaiden 2 “ever” coming to PS3, I’d have to say I’d be very surprised if Splinter Cell didn’t appear on PS3 at some point after the 360 version. Previously I wouldn;t have given a toss, but having actually sat down and played Double Agent properly this past summer for the first time, I’m actually looking forward to Conviction now. Although, isn’t it coming out on PC as well? Not exactly ‘Staying on 360′ there if it is :)

  14. thats a shame 360 seems to be getting some good titles i regret selling it some times

    • You shouldn’t the 360 exclusives are sometimes terrilby overhyped!!
