The LittleBigPlanet universe will continue to grow but do not expect a sequel. When asked about the streams of DLC, producer Martin Lynagh has said “I think what you’ve seen so far from LittleBigPlanet, that’s the way it’s going to continue.”  Danny Leaver, LBPs level designer, was asked about a sequel and suggested this may fragment the existing LittleBigPlanet community, saying “We’d never want to do that. That’d be the most counterproductive thing you could do I think.”

The good news is there will be plenty more to DLC to come, “We have a lot of stuff coming out, especially next year. We can’t really talk about specifics for a lot of it at the moment, because a lot of it hasn’t been announced.”

  1. Aww damn.

Really wanted to see an LBP2 on the PS3, rather than just heaps and heaps of DLC unless it is completely new DLC levels like the MGS ones. That would be good.

    • The only thing I see me wanting in a sequel is the inclusion of a new campaign really. So, I’m cool with not getting a sequel as long as they do some sort of “Campaign 2″ pack… plus some other level packs.

      • A Campaign 2 pack would be good. Fingers crossed!! ;)

      • They wouldn’t call it ”campaign 2“ it would most likely be the collectors revenge or hey an evil Sackperson :)

    • Well, it will essentially grow to be something almost entirely different after they continue to add DLC.

  2. LittleBigPlanet lives! (Sorta)

    • agreed

  3. Get ready for 4 years worth of costumes at £2 each! It was easy enough to see this coming, its the start of Sony’s ‘play, create, share’ thing. They’ll put out new games under that motto but another LBP would do exactly what they have suggested, fragment a community they use as the games main selling point.

    • I think ‘play, create, share’ should be a Brand, and the versions are Platformer (LBP), Racer (Modnation Racers) and the rest to follow in the future, ie; FPS, Puzzler, Music etc etc

could be a nice umbrella term for a range of ‘new’ ip’s…

      • Buzz has the quiz field of that sorted with MyBuzz questions me thinks

  4. Good idea why create a new game and split the audience when you can just improve the game with decent features. Looking forward to water and wondering what else they have up their sleeves.

  5. No I think this is really good news actually. I agree so much that some games just shouldn’t have a sequel just for the sake of it.
Instead, LPD are doing something great (hopefully), sticking with the original game and expanding it! Making it better, who needs a sequel when you can add to the original and keep the community? WipeOut Fury Expansion made me happy when they did this.

  6. I love the avatar picture on the front page to this story lol

    • it brings back such great meories of when LBP was officially revealed – what a briliant demonstration it was :) “I’ve got an idea … if you tilt your head forwards … etc.”

  7. Instead of releasing a LittleBigPlanet 2 as a full disc game they should just release the equivalent of another story mode’s worth of levels as one huge DLC pack, containing all the materials and new music and objects and all the usual prize bubbles.

  8. I can not decide whther this is good or bad news, however I do think they should release at least half a story mode’s worth of levels, stickers, objects etc as one big DLC, along with more things like water (which I wish MM would speed up with getting released). This DLC could be priced at… lets say £10-20. I’d be happy for more top-quality LBP action and not a few pointless costumes.

  9. Depends on the DLC, if its just costumes and sticker packs I’m not interested – In fact I’d sell it if it was worth anything.

If it’s more stuff like the MGS Pack then that would be awesome, if you’re not going to do a new game MM, how about giving us more curators and associated levels?

    • you can sell Little Big Planet today for £9. in CeX – if there’s onee near to you – or probably gamestation, although GAME and gamestation have a habit of ripping people off..but it is worth £9 to go to the credit voucher.

      • £9 in CEX? You can buy it for that brand new online.

      • .. thats all anyone’s offering. i said you can SELL it for £9, not buy. actually, i didn’t understand your last post..?

  10. Unhappiest news of the day.

    :(

  11. I think were more likely to see more ‘play, create share’ genre games appearing like modnation racers (which i am massivly looking forward to) as theve found a new genre that has a wide target audience including kids all the way to full grown burly men – you know who you are ;)

  12. I think this is a good idea as long as they keep bringing new things like level packs as well as just water and new costumes. Not bothered bout LBP2 coz what else will it be able to do ? They can just add anything they want to this one!

  13. MediaMolecule… More levels!!! Please!!

  14. “We can’t really talk about specifics for a lot of it at the moment”

    Read: More costumes

  15. i think this is a smart move. they should deffo release the game of the year edition and repush the origonal. maybe go as far as releasing some of the best levels on an expansion disc to play for those out there without the net.

either way nice to see people supporting the game still rather than fragmenting the community by releasing a sequal 30seconds after the first one. *cough left 4 dead cough*
