A recent Marvel financial report has revealed games for comic icons Thor and Captain America are in production. Both titles will be released in 2011 and will be back to back with the new movies ‘Thor’ and ‘The First Avenger: Captain America’. Marvel giveth (Yay! Thor Game!) and then they taketh away (It’s a movie tie in – it will probably suck). Sega will be handling both games.

  1. Never really liked Thor or Captain America kinda sucky hero’s but there we go. But if Sega is doing them that shows some promise, but as you mentioned movie tie in’s are diabolical.

    • wolverine i feel was a good game

  2. I’ve been looking for a gaming fix after I loved Transformers, High School Musical: the FPS and Terminator Salvation so much.

  3. wasn’t this mentioned in the leaked memos a couple of months ago?

  4. NOOOO! it can’t be…. it can’t… be Thor the mighty god of thunder destroyed by a horrible Game and movie what have Walt Marvel done!?
Manowar/Rhapsody of Fire lyrics will help me through these dark times

    Black clouds on the horizon
    Great thunder and burning rain
    His chariot pounding
,I heard the heavens scream his name

    I watched as he shouted
To the giants that died that day
He hehd up his hammer high
And called to Odin for a sign

Thor the mighty, Thor the brave
Crush the infidels in your way

By your hammer let none be saved
Live to die on that final day
    Gods, Monsters and Men
We’ll die together in the end

God of thunder, god of rain
Earth shaker who feels no pain
    The powerhead of the Universe
Now send your never ending curse

Swing your hammer to crack the sky
Lift your cape so that you might fly
Back to Odin and the Gods on High
    And leave this mortal world

  6. Cool

  7. I’ve read a couple of the comic books when I was a kid, but I never was much of a fan of Captain America or Thor. So I’m not expecting much from the movie or the games.

  8. Not for me. More interested in the Captain America one i think.

  9. I think the Disney takeover will lead to more Marvel games in the long run, hopefully they keep the quality up.

  10. I hope they add a twist in the game whereby Thor is revealed to be an Asgard…

    • LOL :)

  11. The main reason movie tie-in games suck is because of the limited time the developers are given. Most movies are in production for 9 months, and most movie studios don’t allow game production to start until movie production starts, and still require a simultaneous launch date. Maybe Marvel has learned a lesson from the Wolverine game, that was actually pretty good. One thing is obvious, with 5 or 6 more Marvel movies scheduled for the next 3 years we can expect alot more Marvel movie tie-in games.

    • I’ve been reading about Avatar the game, which has been in development just as long as the film has been in post-production (3 years) so there is every chance that won’t suck.

Whereas like you say every other movie based game is only 9 months or so in development.

      • Plus isn’t the game in 3-D too.

      • With Avatar, I think I’m looking forward to the game more than the film!! ;)
