VG247 are reporting that the UK PlayStation Video Service will kick off on the 18th of November, which they claim is revealed via an invite to a party that TheSixthAxis also received a couple of weeks back but assumed wasn’t meant to be public knowledge. The invite, as far as we knew, is actually for the launch party and not necessarily the actual public release date of the service, which we think is still going to be the week after, accompanied with a firmware update – we were told the Video Service needs new system software, and we’ve been told that update won’t be until the 25th (or thereabouts).
Release date fight, then, all bets are on!
In the meantime, we haven’t been told any details on pricing yet, but as we said before, we do have a list of studios behind the service – 20th Century Fox, Disney-ABC-ESPN Television, Lionsgate, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc, Paramount Pictures, Sony Pictures, Starz Media, Universal, and Warner Bros – and a list of films available, which includes Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Hannah Montana: The Movie, Bruno, Angels & Demons, Casino Royale, Crank 2: High Voltage and The Hills Have Eyes. We’ll let you know when we get anything else.
Thanks, RadioactiveMouse.

Maybe im reading it wrong, my interpretation is that you are unhappy with that date for release. Although now im waking up from being at work all day and realising you probably mean that you dont think the release date is actually going to be on that date because of the reasons above.. Apologies

why do they send you the emails, knowing your a gaming site guy and ask you to keep it ‘under wraps’? They must know that it will be leaked by someone wanting the attention!?!

“which they claim is revealed via an invite to a party that TheSixthAxis also received a couple of weeks back”
If its an invite to a party they have to know about it or else no one would go.

I know it wasnt you that leaked it, im saying why do they tell people in the first place if they want to keep it a secret?

Yeah, matty is right. I’m not saying VG247 didn’t get additional info, by the way, I’m just saying that as far as I was aware, the invite was for a party, and it was meant to be private.
Still, we’ll see.

I’m looking forward to using this, subject to pricing of course. I can see me using the rental side of things the most.

i don’t see how the video store needs a new version of the firmware, if the current firmware works for the us video store it should work here.
i understand the firmware is pretty much universal.
unless of course they’ve decided to cripple some feature of the eu video store in some way.

Stop being so melodramatic, your endless moaning about SCEE is wearing thin. Besides, that’s my job.

ok i went off on a tangent there but i still don’t see why the video store would need a firmware update.

Thought it’d be the end of the month. Harry Potter is a film available at launch and can’t see them getting that on the service before the DVD release.

Crank 2 is an epic film. Watch the first one first but they are both just proper balls-to-the-wall hilarious action with the tongue firmly in the cheek!
