Over two million simultaneous connections. That is how many people were online at one point yesterday according to a tweet at about 9 o’clock last night, UK time, from LIVE’s Larry Hryb, a.k.a. Major Nelson.

We just hit a new #XboxLIVE record: Over TWO MILLION people connected to the service at once.

The new record is almost certainly due to the extraordinary number of copies of Modern Warfare 2 that have been sold in the few days since launch.  Considering how much more success 360 users have had playing MW2 online compared to those of us trying to connect over PSN, which folded due to the number of players trying to get online, it shows Microsoft are doing something right.
