We’re still waiting for an English press release, but apparently Konami Germany have confirmed that the European PSN Store will get the much delayed PlayStation classic Metal Gear Solid this Thursday.
I don’t speak German, but that’s clearly talking about Metal Gear Solid, for 10 Euro. From the press release it looks like the reason behind the release is the upcoming PSP title, Peace Walker. Let’s hope for UK news soon.
Update: Konami have sent us the English press release:
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced it will release four classic Metal Gear Solid titles via Sony’s PlayStation(R)Network service.
The news comes as Konami gears up for the anticipated release of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker for PSP(R) (PlayStation(R)Portable), and will begin with the reissue of the original PSone version of Metal Gear Solid on November 19th, priced £7.99. Hailed as an all-time classic and one of the most influential video games of modern times, Metal Gear Solid marked the series’ first move into a fully 3D play area, and established Hideo Kojima as an iconic talent.
The release of Metal Gear Solid will then be followed with Kojima Productions’ PSP(R) entrants to the series: Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops, Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops +, and the innovative Metal Gear Solid: Digital Graphic Novel. Release dates for these titles will be confirmed at a later date.

This is very good – MGS is the sort of stuff that should have been available digitally at the launch of the PSPGo, it’s the sort of series that helps shifts consoles. £7.99 isn’t dreadful either, might grab this.

Not sure if i am going to pick this up now… its kinda missed the boat for me. Have got me PSN pennys saved for critter crunch, gravity crash, etc etc.
Although i have been meaning to have a play through MGS4 again. I picked up the official guide the other day and i fancy a play-through with that on me lap to unlock some of the easter eggs etc.

Not sure what to think about this, MGS is an amazing game, but essentially it is only a PSone classic game, and i think it’s unfair to price it higher than other games from the same system, it shouldn’t really be more than £4.
Also, by pricing it at around £4, wouldn’t that encourage more people to try it who haven’t already bought it, then just adding to the fan base of this amazing series of games?
Plus those (like me) who loved the original are more likely to purchase. I still have the original on disc(s) at home, since my Phat PS3 YLOD’d, and my slim doesn’t have the ability to play ps1/2 games, i feel a bit pissed off to have to pay twice the going rate.

At last. This and vagrant story mark off two of my top ten PSOne games I want to play on my PSP, and they’re both arriving pretty soon too. Shame about the pricing though. I wonder how Square-Enix will price Vagrant Story come to that… 7.99 isn’t really going to sit well for an obscure title like that surely?
Wonder why no Metal Gear Acid love.

Vagrant Story was released on the Japanese PSN store for 600 yen, whereas FFVII was released at 1500 yen, so maybe they’ll do something similar in the US/Europe.

I love Metal Gear Solid, it’s one of my favourite games of all time. That said I think it’s bullsh*t to price it at £7.99 when all the other PSone games are half the price! Just because it’s Metal Gear Solid and they know peple want it so badly!

“Finally, a ‘proper’ PS1 classic.”
The Little Mermaid II isn’t a classic? Creatures: Bred in Space isn’t MORE than a shoddy adaptation of a highly complex PC game? Titles such as Sheep don’t just tug on your nostalgia heartstrings?
Gamers these days, spoilt with their “good games” and “innovative titles.” In my day we had Star Wars: Episode I – The Video Game and were glad to have it!
