I am on Firefox now. It is no doubt the most secure, fast and generally reliable browser available. Would be a welcome addition to PS3 to replace the clunky garbage we have now.

The browser has been a nightmare, in general tbh, was way too unstable and with every ps3 update i would wonder if the sites i went to would still work or start working.

Facebook was a bit of a hit or miss, although I’m now aware that they’ve made an app for this on the ps3 it would be nice to have a fully functional web browser.

Really hope this becomes reality, would mean average jo wouldn’t need a pc as the PS3 would then do most things the average computer does (in the eyes of average joe anyways)

Chrome > Firefox

If Chrome were to be implemented into the PS3 it would work like a charm, its basic and FAST, much faster than any other browser i’ve used.
But i guess Firefox is at least better than what we have now, at least we aren’t getting Internet Explorer! xD

This can’t come quick enough. The current browser is awfully slow despite your connection speed and not user friendly at all.

You would think they looked into (google) Chrome because they already have google search and the special youtube channel.. (that also needs ’some’ work..) instead of Firefox..

Anyway.. Both could* be better..
(*please keep in mind the PS3 still got a memory problem for this kind of stuff.. Only 512mb shared half by the GPU. Using the very slow disk would get us back to the current browser issues..)

I hope this rumour turns out to be true, more so for the PSP where the browser is so slow and unstable for me that I never use it anymore.

As far as I know there’s no lightweight, embedded version of Chrome yet. Much easier to port a browser that already has that.

I haven’t read up on the licencing for Chrome/Chromium or Webkit/Safari, might be possible for Sony to use one of those as well, sounds more plausible than FF at least.

yep. The problem one for me is Kotaku – I have to do a manual refresh whenever I load it or it will only display headlines from the last time I visited the site.

Honestly? Surprised they aren’t using Opera given it’s ability to fit just about anywhere with a processor and RAM. They may however be using the outdated MiniMo or possibly something built of Mozilla Fennec, which is Mozilla’s mobile browser.

My guess for them not using Chrome is that (as far as I’m aware) there isn’t a lightweight version of Chrome for embedded environments yet. Variations of Firefox already are designed to run in low power environments, so that may be why.

I Haven’t had any problems with the PS3 browser, but the PSP? – that’s a wholly different story.
