Funnily enough, I was going to post something similar:
Monopoly doesn’t really teach us the reality of property development, does it? It’s not criticised for it’s over-simplification of the rules of investment.

That said… Just to play devil’s advocate: There is a certain degree of truth in the article, because I have little or no experience of war outside of films and games. For all I know, most wars could play out exactly the same as Timesplitters 2.

When are the non-gamers going to realize, that gamers are in fact just actors. We play a certain role in a game… Why would playing a game be seen any different, than a actor playing a role in a film or theater play? If the games could violate the law, why aren’t most actors been picked up and put in jail? They violate law in numerous films and plays… Or the director even, is he not the master mind? Even several international laws are being broken in certain films and plays… I just don’t get it… When are the non-gamers going to realize it’s just entertainment, like any other form of entertainment?

Why would I let a game influence me in the real world? How could I not recognise a problem creeping up on me if something was happening over the long-term? I guess it’s because I have an ounce of sense and can separate entertainment (games, films, etc) and that real-world we talk about so often.

If there are people who can’t do this then it’s up to them (and more importantly the people who care about/for them) to act responsibily, raise their game (as such) and take action where necessary.

Not once have I crashed a car into a train, beaten an other-world create to death, built up a crime-syndicate and driven around being chased by a multitude of hilariously driven police cars.

Are there actually people, mentally healthy people, that believe that games are responsible for their decisions they take in life? Are there people that they believe that games are more important than their own lives? Well…there are i guess..

Who the hell wants to play war games that DO portray reality? Realism in some game types is great but these are games like Gran Turismo where you would like to experience the real thing but never could (for cost, availability etc reasons) so the closer the game can get, the better.
In games like COD, some realism is nice but it still needs to be fun and that means abstracting from reality in certain places. This is true of the majority of games

why dont these people divert their small minds towards things that matter like domestic abuse, child abuse etc… instead of trying to persecute gamers and their hobby…

I hear that Hitler, Pol-Pot, Stalin, we all exponents of video game training.

What a crock of horse shit, this sort of ’study’ defies belief. I think the real clue is in the title ‘videogames’ they are games, when I grew up it was socially acceptable to play cowboys and indians, but that didn’t mean I was going to emigrate, and kick some native American butt.

It’s insulting to think ’sun’ readers will look at this and say, “See, told you those Nintendy things were wrong” as they sink another can of wife-beater.

Fiction is just that, fiction, I can’t drive on the streets like I do in Burnout, nor can I glide like Cole, I tried, it hurt. I’m a little upset that the gold rings I used to collect have all been taken by some huge-moustached villain, and I’ll be writing a letter to my councillor.
