The UK government intelligence organisation GCHQ is to start advertising on XBox Live to attract ‘quick thinking gamers’. Recruitment firm TMP Worldwide, who are running the adverts on behalf of the government, say some of the MI5 recruiting criteria are “reflected in game-play experiences on Xbox, such as quick thinking, problem solving and team work”.
“The fact remains that many potential candidates remain unaware of GCHQ and what we do. Using video on Xbox LIVE helps carry our message to the right people in a creative and innovative manner,” said a spokeswoman for GCHQ.
Next time you are shooting those pesky Russians in ‘Modern Warfare 2′ remember: It’s not a game, you’re training to be the next James Bond.

That’s just what we need. Spies out on the front line, calling for some info and some kid on the other end calling them a noob. Awesome.

None on PSN then? I see how it is MI5. No quick thinking skills for you.

Maybe they didn’t target PSN because they aren’t really after LBP players!

Back off sir!
LBP requires many skills, especially quick thinking in order to solve puzzles and win races…

Quite. You’ve gotta love slapping people just before the gate opens!

Yeah, but if you slap them they will get up before you can move

Yeahh… saying it’s MI5 and MI6 advertising on Live is a bit different from GCHQ advertising. They’re looking for the un-glamorous maths geeks who sadly won’t get to travel to Marrakesh to meet a one eyed nuclear scientist named “Hanz”, while supping vodka martinis and sh*gging every blond slapper along the way.

It’s not misleading. They ARE advertising, through GCHQ. They’re just not advertising to fill the vacancy ‘007.’ Although, imagine the amount of applications they would recieve for that…

Are they advertising? Do you have a form?

Thank god you were here! I almost was going to apply but now I won’t because you’ve managed to wittle this clearly not taking the piss article down into tiny literal but boring chunks. Well done you sir.

Sorry, I only posted that ’cause I’m bitter they refused my application; they rejected me for spelling whittle incorrectly. See? I’ve saved you from a similarly humiliating experience.

Clever. You pick out a minor spelling mistake whereas I show you missing the point. The phrase “grasping at straws” comes to mind.

The 360 already supports this kind of advertising, it’s pretty much built into the NXE. As far as I know the PSN doesn’t really support these kind of ads yet? I imagine that’s why they choose the 360 over the PS3 as the platform (or didn’t select both).

They could put it in the “What’s New” section. I think I’ve seen ads for Papa Johns in there… But who actually looks at that?

And there’s currently a Netflix ad. Other than that, they are all Game/Video Store related.

Ive heard MI5/MI6 recruitments in specific games before but not specific platforms. I guess it is just down to the way advertising works with the 360 and NXE like Raen said.

I’m sorry, but are MI5 and MI6 trying to say the PS3 owners aren’t quick thinking, problem solving, team working people?
