Over the pond in the U.S.A. President Obama unveiled a new education initiative to help inspire young kids in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Sony Computer Entertainment America is helping out to the tune of $2 million by donating 1000 PS3s and copies of LittleBigPlanet to libraries and community centres. The initiative is also backed by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Michael Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA said,
“Computer and video games are one of the most effective ways to reach America’s children and encourage them to stay interested in vital STEM principles. We are honoured to have President Obama recognize the unique ability of games to act as a catalyst in generating new areas of growth in education.”
Yesterday Modern Warfare helped you become James Bond, today LittleBigPlanet helps you become ‘Q’.

I made a good little demo on lbp about resonant frequencies in physics once, as a demo to one of my housemates as to what the hell I was talking about.

So does this mean that Obama is all for games and gamers now! Wish he’d make up his mind

I learnt basic strategy from Command and Conquer so this could actually work. That and the fact that hand-eye co-ordination has to be relatively high among gamers compared to those who don’t play games due to using the controllers.
Only thing is that most of these “initiatives” end up without direction and therefore is a waste of money.

The US get Obama and we get Brown – its just not fair (I want to go back to being 3 and throwing a tantrum about it thumping the floor with my fists).

Blair may have technically been “evil” but at least he had a personality. Boris for PM, buckets of personality. He seems to be doing pretty well in London.

Boris may stick his foot in it a lot and he is funny – but he is proving to be a suprsingly good mayor. He’s actually getting things done unlike Ken.

Obama has to love gaming (eg. MW2) or he won’t have any gun-nut soldiers to invade random countries throughout his time in the WhiteHouse.

Hahahahahaha! That’s really quite sublime *applauds*
“So to sum up the case, your son drowned because he’d been playing the video game ‘LittleBigPlanet’ and you want to sue Media Molecule for such reprehensible behaviour.
USA Judge “Here’s twelvety five gabillion dollars”
UK Judge “Piss off you cretinous fuckwit. Stop wasting my time, I have a rentboy waiting for me in my chambers”.

“Yesterday Modern Warfare helped you become James Bond, today LittleBigPlanet helps you become ‘Q’.”
and uh… Grand Theft Auto shows you the dangers of crime and the means streets and uh… Fallout 3 prepares you for life after my failed foreign policy (all read from the teleprompter, of course).
If you want a politician that does not really listen but insist on giving you what “is good for you”, then yes, you want Obama.
I guess Sony will donate some nice Bravia TVs to go with those PS3s.

interesting to see if it will work, also good investment for sony, 1000 ps3s played by more than one person can make a lot of people want a ps3 of their own!
