Over the pond in the U.S.A. President Obama unveiled a new education initiative to help inspire young kids in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). Sony Computer Entertainment America is helping out to the tune of $2 million by donating 1000 PS3s and copies of LittleBigPlanet to libraries and community centres. The initiative is also backed by the Entertainment Software Association (ESA). Michael Gallagher, president and CEO of the ESA said,
“Computer and video games are one of the most effective ways to reach America’s children and encourage them to stay interested in vital STEM principles. We are honoured to have President Obama recognize the unique ability of games to act as a catalyst in generating new areas of growth in education.”
Yesterday Modern Warfare helped you become James Bond, today LittleBigPlanet helps you become ‘Q’.
