Oh, and you can’t argue Final Fantasy Tactics Advance (the original one, not A2) was amazing. Some experienced players put it to their top 3 among VII and X. You should check the intro on YouTube at least.

You kinda got the hopes wrong. The trending “FF Savior” title is FFvsXIII. Join the crowd.
I loved the Occuria scene in XII, by the way. The rest of the game didn’t live up though. Still have that Yiazmat to beat. ^^

Not saying that was bad either. I liked how they made the system where you interact with Japanese using pre-made phrases, kinda lowers the language barrier.
As for your advice, i would also recommend VI, it’s kinda… richer then V. Still love V though, i guess it has the most replayability. Also the cutscenes were so… human. Not the overpowered/heroic like.

I agree a little.

But having an optional install on a brilliantly programmed game is still better than not having an optional install on a brilliantly programed game.

And no matter how good a programmer is there’s a limit to how fast you can read data off the blueray, that is probably beat by even the slowest HDD a user might decide to upgrade to. I’d rather have a small install than even the shortest loading time.

Squareenix/soft have always done spectacularly well with their games in making sure that they run very very smooth so I have no doubt that this will be exactly the same as previous versions.

For the record though I am pro installs, I wouldnt care at all if I had to wait 20 mins to get the best out of a game that will see me happy for the next 100 hours.

I agree with you Cb that installs should become optional (if thats what you were getting at), I would use it in all my sandbox games and probably quite a few others regardless of how long or how big the file is.

While games like Uncharted use the caching superbly there are always times when my PS3 goes into overdrive and I do get worried that any moment it could just cough and fart at me before YLOD hits me (again).

In the end, the games smoothness and my PS3s survival is what matters most and if that takes installs for every game then so be it.

All probably right, although a game won’t need installs if its been well programmed (Killzone 2, Uncharted2 or pretty much any first party blockbuster)

So the fact it needs an install shows the programming could have been better, although have an install on a poorly programmed game is better than having no install on a poorly programmed game.

I totally agree up to the point where large install become essential. If they’re optional I’d much rather have an install because it speeds up load times if nothing else (and MW2 on PS3 showed that without installs load times are too much).

It’s annoying when they are forced because sometimes you’d just like to get your game on without having to wait 5 minutes (or 25 if it’s MGS4) watching a progress bar fill (or an old guy with a mullet having a fag).

Im a bit of a noob at all this techno stuff so, apart from the obvious taking up HDD space I can only see that an install benefits the game. It eases pressure on the drive, therefore likely to reduce any excess heat and from that possibly reducing the chance of overheating and getting RROD/YLOD.

Id like someone to explain why im wrong here coz i just dont get why installs are that bad.

And we don’t either. XI was a MMORPG. XII threw the story out the window and invented whole new battle system. It could be anything.

Actually to be honest, if you really wanna play a Final Fantasy and don’t mind going ‘Back to the old school’ seriously play Final Fantasy V that was amazing!
Though if your adamant for more updated Graphics go for X. If you have a few months of solid gaming go for VII. Those 3 are the best in my opinion.

Exciting stuff. Cannot wait for this, though i’m not holding my hopes up unfortunatley for me X-2: Sucked. XII: Sucked. All those millions of pointless DS versions of FF: Sucked.
X was good, but really there hasn’t been a GREAT FF since Squaresoft became Square-enix. But i’m really hoping they prove me wrong with XIII and XIV.

In the meantime try FFVII, which is the most popular one and is the one to make the most resemblance to FFXIII!. It’s also available on PC (thepiratebay.org )

And if you finish before 2010 try FFVIII, again available on PC.

Apparently they didn’t start building the 360 version until the PS3 versions engine was complete anyway, so it should certainly run fine on the PS3 and 360. Oh and cc, you should have use iii) for the third point.
