New films, but not a faster service.

It’s not an update to the servers, though, which last time we checked were dramatically underpowered, with our first attempt at watching a HD movie aborted after 6 hours of fruitless downloading.  No, for those of you with quick enough connections, the PlayStation Movie Delivery Service is now getting some new films: Terminator Salvation, Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs, Bruno, Star Trek, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian and “many more“!

Sounds great, although we were told the Video Store would update with “50 new titles every week” when we attended the rather grand opening launch party for the service.  Interesting, then, that even most of the titles listed above as ‘new’ are already up there – let’s hope the Store updates with a good selection this evening, or whenever it is that the thing updates.  As for the speed, well, I’m assuming that’ll all come soon enough, because I personally can’t even stream a trailer.

  1. I downloaded a HD film on the video store. It was 5 gb big !

  2. That’s a rather pathetic update, but I suppose it is early days – I mean it did launch with hundreds and hundreds of films, I’ll let them off with the updates for a couple of weeks – but if it doesn’t improve I will be disappointed.
I tried to rent a film, but it took an age to download. Hopefully when the servers perk up a bit, I can stream in HD! :D

  3. I’m not going to bother with this until I switch ISPs and get my speed upgraded. Hopefully by then, the service will be running nice and smooth!! ;)
