Sports games tend to come out during the time of year when that particular sport is being played. Now while that is logical from the point of view of interest in that sport potentially being higher, surely the corollary is that fans of that sport will be more likely to be out playing it for real rather than on their console.
With that in mind I think it is time that video games of summer sports receive some promotion during winter. As this is part of TSA’s Advent Calendar Christmas also needs to be factored in somehow. Checking the calendar I notice that one great British sporting event happens directly opposite Christmas.
Wimbledon, as renowned for being rained off and strawberries and cream as it is for tennis. Now it is happily convenient that it is the sport of tennis which happens to be occurring opposite Christmas as, because of my visit to Sega back in May for some hands on time with Virtua Tennis 2009 (as well as eating the aforementioned strawberries and cream) I have some Virtua Tennis goodies to give away.
First up is the copy of Virtua Tennis 3 I bought to practice on before my trip there. Practice that served me well, seeing me through to the final of the tournament on the day. Also on the way to the lucky winner will be following Virtua Tennis 2009 branded goodies: a set of tennis balls, head sweatband and four finger sweatbands for those serious gaming sessions. Finally, to keep your head warm while playing tennis in winter is a rather fetching ‘Björn Borg’ wig.
To win this little bundle of summer sport joy all you have to do is pick a summer outdoors sport and tell me why it would be better if that sport was played outdoors in the depths of winter. Answers can be funny and/or clever and the one I like the most will win. Simples. Just submit your answer with your TSA username and the subject “Tennis balls are green so you can find them in the snow!” to greg[at]thesixthaxis[dot]com by 23:59 (GMT) on Sunday 13th December 2009. Normal TSA rules and conditions apply.

Cool idea. I doubt I’ll be able to pull anything creative off but I’ll give it a go eh.
