Get Your Free Digital Comic Here [65]

The EU Blog has just announced that the Digital Comic store will go live on the PSP at five PM tonight. The service, which has already seen a number of free-to-download trial comics, is actually rather brilliant, with nice smooth zooms between panels and a cute little page turn animation.

The service goes live in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa with hundreds of new and classic collections available from the Comic Store section of the PlayStation Store, including everything from battling superheroes like Spider-man, X-Men and the Fantastic Four, to Disney’s Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck.

  1. Prices, prices… I’m curious how much these 10 minute reads will cost…

    • Me too, if they roll out at much more than a pound a piece then I don’t think I’ll be using the service.

      • Really I’d say no more than 79p the price of a music track… even then I’d probably get more use out of music… It’s a funny one this as I have really enjoyed reading the freebies… took me back in time a little too!

    • I wonder if they may have a few special offers at first.

  2. Good stuff! Well done sony.

  3. Cannot. Freaking. Wait.

    • Counting down the minutes too mate!

  4. Awesome music on that ad. This is a pretty good reason for me to get a PSP. I was thinking it odd that they were using an old-style psp in the ad, but then they did the old swivel and shine.

  5. Also does the fact that it states ‘comic service for Playstation’ mean we can see it jumping to PS3 too…?

    • I think they’ve said PS3’s not a priority. Yet.

  6. Can you add your own comics? [i.e. ones you have downloaded already]

    • I was thinking the same thing but for the comics books i’ve made.

    • No – The files are specifically designed for PSP.

  7. I only knew about the transformers freebie, I really ought to check the eu blog more often.

I assume it’s too late to snap them up now?

    • they’re free on the store now and a few others.

  8. I dont know if TSA picked up on the story, but some publishers will actually be including audio tracks to accompany the reader. I believe the specific mention was for audio commentary, but perhaps we could eventually be looking at full speech with foley effects to really add some flavor to the text.

  9. Cannot wait, this is gonna be wicked just waiting on the prices for this!!!!!!!

  10. Ill subscribe to 2000AD straight away if its there. I quite like the idea of recieving a new comic every week on my psp!

  11. This service is good, i got a freebie of the Megatron comic and it flows really well, with shaking effects for explosions and stuff. If I were interested in comics more I would definitely use this service.

  12. Just browsing now, prices seem to be either 79p or £1.19 depending on the comic. There’s so many there, there may be some at different prices, sohappy hunting

  13. prices seem reasonable, from scee? what is the world coming to :)
quite a few freebies too, but then they’re just to get you to buy the rest of the issues of the series, which is cool by me, kinda like a demo.
have to get a store card now

  14. Great stuff play al evel or two of LBP and maybe a race in GT then read how Dennis and Gnasher are getting on….. sweet. PSP looking good and I just bought a new battery so that flat times should not arise.

  15. I downloaded all the freebies. Gutted there was no Captain America freebie though. Might have to buy it.
