The upcoming Michael Bay-less Transformers: The War For Cybertron will reveal the origins of both the Autobots and the Decepticons.  Taking place on Cybertron, the story will focus on the Transformers’ beginnings while likely revealing why the two sets of robots are so hell-bent on constantly kicking the living lard out of each other.

Rob Kostich, Activision’s head of marketing, licenced products states:

“Transformers: War for Cybertron is an origins story, taking players on a gripping, adrenaline-fueled journey that precedes the TRANSFORMERS characters’ arrival on Earth. The game transports players to a living, metallic planet where they will battle as giant converting robots in single player, online co-op or head-to-head multiplayer matches that are fully immersive from start to finish.”

By starting at the source of the eternal conflict, Activision and developer High Noon Games are hoping to build a franchise based on the foundation of Transformers lore.

Apart from all the co-op goodness, the game will also have two separate story arcs. The Autobot campaign is a goody-goody “save the planet” type deal, while the Decepticon story will see the bad guys kicking ass and taking names on their quest for domination.

We know which one we’re looking forward to playing more.
